Chapter 17:
This is the day. The date I finally go on a day with the girl. The day I become a man, and not some wimpy, nerdy kid. The day guys look at me with respect and dignity. The day girls see me as cute and not fugly. This is the moment.
Waking up Friday morning was the best feeling in the whole wide world. It took me a long time to sleep last night, since I was so excited to wake up today. When my eyes opened from sleeping, I smiled because I knew what today was. I leaped off my bed, and ran to my bathroom. It was also 7:10, so I had to hurry up.
I took a shower quickly, conditioning my hair and putting soap everywhere on my body. I needed to smell extra well today, so I put soap again on my body. After my shower, I sprinted to my room, with my towel on. I fell face first in the floor trying to run with a towel around my waist. I picked myself up and entered my bedroom.
My clothes were already neatly placed on my bed, ready to be wore. I always fixed my bed, but today I had to rush. I grabbed my clothes and put them on quickly. I was wearing a navy blue polo shirt, some black skinny jeans, and black sneakers that I NEVER put on before. Maybe I needed to go outside of my usual box and try something new. I went in front of the mirror, put some gel in my hair, and combed it continuously.
I almost fell on my face again trying to rush down the stairs. When I reached the bottom of the stairs without injuring myself, I walked to the kitchen. My mom was cooking, like usual, but this time breakfast was eggs. She also made biscuits and bacon to go with it. I used to eat this all the time before, but then I simply stopped for no reason. Today was a good day to taste that feeling again.
"What you cooking mom," I asked, even though I knew what she was making. She turned around quickly and gave me a smile.
"Well I wanted to go back to the old days and cook one of your favorites. Scrambled egg, with a biscuit and bacon," she told me.
I couldn't wait to taste good, old memories. I sat down on a chair in front of the table. I told y mom to hurry since it was 7:35 and I had to be there by 7:50 ish. She understood, and finished after that in less than two minutes. She served the dish, and I had to say, she was in a good mood too. She put two biscuits for the eyes, the scrambled egg was the smile, and the bacon was I think supposed to be the eyebrows. She was making fun of my eyebrows. I had to laugh about that though.
"Nice face mom," I laughed at her. She turned around and saw what I was talking about and started laughing too.
"Thank you, I had to have something to sculpt from."
That's gonna make me start sleeping with the covers over my face. I ate the scrambled egg first, and memories shot through my head instantly. It tasted phenomenal, as well as the bacon and the biscuits. It took me five minutes to demolish the dish, with a quick sip of milk. I told my mom thank you, and then I went to the bathroom again to brush my teeth twice.
I looked at the time and I see it was 7:45, so I didn't know if I had time or I had to rush. Well when I grabbed my backpack and lunchbox, said bye to my mom, and stepped out the door, it was 7:48. Good thing I put my sneakers on today because I was probably going to be running a lot.
When I reached the bus stop, Juan looked at me weird. I didn't know why he did, but it concerned me.
"What?" I asked him.
"What up with the sneakers?"
Already less than a minute into the school day, and someone already ask about my sneakers. This was going to be interesting.
"I'm going outside the box," I told him.
"Still.....you look strange."
I slapped him in the face, maybe to knock some sense into him that it was still Fernando. After I slapped him, he rubbed his face and then he remembered.
