Chapter 14:
I never have asked a girl out on a date before. I have never been asked to go on a date before either. I really didn't care though, yet I always saw Juan get asked out or asking out a girl. It never really got to my attention, until I had to do it. It was my first time.
Thursday morning, the sun beating on my face through my ajar window. My face was getting full blast of the sunlight, my eyes getting beamed.
"Rise and shine," I heard my mom say out loud in my room. So she was the one who opened the window I thought. I wanted to ignore her for doing that, but she's my mom. I want those tacos in my lunchbox.
"What time is it," I asked her, rubbing me eyes since they were still trying to fully open.
"It is 7:20," my mom said, and that's when I leaped off of my bed and ran to the bathroom. My bus came at 7:50, so I didn't want so be late. I entered my bath tub and took a quick shower, and then changed to my school clothes. My shower was five minutes, trying to be quick and smooth at the same time.
I brushed my teeth after I changed to my clothes, and ran down the stairs. My mom looked like she was in a great mood, making me four pancakes to eat fast before I headed to the bus. She was listening to beyonce's single ladies, dancing to the song while cooking the pancakes. I had to say, it was hilarious seeing her do this.
"Oops I didn't see you there," she said and immediately finished dancing to the song. She flipped the pancakes one more time, and layers them gently onto a plate. She then brought them to the table where I was sitting patently for them.
"It's fine, I have seen worst," I said to her with a smile, and she playfully punched me in the arm. The pancakes smelled delicious, making my mouth watery like the Hoover dam, ready to explode. I poured syrup on it, then placed it in my mouth. It was delicious. Something my mom does amazing with when she's happy. Creating food with an amazing flavor.
"Mom the pancakes are incredible," I told my mom.
"Why thank you Fernando. I woke up at six to make it perfectly for you."
That sounded like my mom. Always doing something perfectly for me so I can be happy. That's why she is my mom.
"So why did I wake up at 7:20," I asked her.
"Well you went to sleep at twelve o'clock, doing your homework when you returned and watching the history channel."
I loved the history channel. Learning things before that shaped America as it is now. I forgot what happened yesterday. I remembered I walked home late at night, when it was about five degrees outside, and entered the house shivering as if I was in the North Pole. I remember Valerie's house, and how it very immense and expensive. Remembered the tacos, and how her mom made them to be perfection.
I remembered Valerie. How she looked so gorgeous in her dress, how her hair was glistening, and her eyes twinkling as ever before. She looked stunning yesterday, and she was always stunning. She was "her."
"Oh I see," I said, snapping back to reality. I finished my pancakes real fast, and grabbed my backpack. It was very heavy since my arms were weak, but I managed to pick it up with little strength I had. I placed it on my back, and the proceeded to the door.
"Bye mom," I said, while she was dancing to the Harlem shake.
"Bye honey," she said, moving her butt all around the kitchen. She sometimes was too happy. I walked out the house and looked at my watch. 7:48! I was going to be late. I raced across my porch and onto the street. I galloped towards the bus stop, not wanting to be left behind.
When I made it, the bus was already there, letting kids enter it. I jogged toward it, making sure the bus driver saw me and that I at least had energy to go up the steps. I then made it in the knick of time, the doors almost closing on me.
I entered the bus, trying to find a seat to sit in. Juan was sitting in a seat all to himself, and he looked thrilled to see me. I went so sit next to him, but I passed Valerie. She was wearing a blue dress, with her hair all curled up. She gave a wink and a smile, and I turned red again. She was sitting next to someone else, so I made a slight attempt to sit next to her. Since I couldn't, I plopped myself next to Juan.
"Bro what happened!" Juan yelped, wanting to know the details again.
I told him everything that happened yesterday, how the house looked, the tacos were, and the tutoring went. When I was done, he asked one more question.
"Did you ask her?"
I told him I would ask we one of these day, telling him that when the moment was right I would. That last night was that moment.
"And what did she say?"
That's when I looked at Valerie. Looked at her with my brown eyes. She turned around at me, and gave me another smile. It was beautiful. Something I loved about this girl.
"So?" He asked one more time.
".....she said yes."
