It started with Piper. She was acting weird the moment she stepped into camp. Her usual beautiful chocolate-brown hair that was in small braids and feathers with the rest flowing in the wind behind her, now was in a ponytail. No braids. No feathers. Just in a ponytail and her small natural bangs falling on her face and framing her head. Piper had flowers in her hair, if she spotted a brightly colored one, Piper would pick it out of the ground and weave the stem in her hair and continue on with her day. Normally, I wouldn't mind if she changed that way she looked, honestly she looked beautiful; but then she wouldn't hang out with me as much. She started drifting away, Piper wouldn't talk to me as frequent as before. I don't like it.
Walking down half-blood hill with Piper was a little awkward, seeing as she didn't talk to me. I looked ahead and saw the camp in all its crowded glory, with everyone practicing their skills that have not been kept up with over the school year. Campers from each cabin doing their scheduled training, sword fighting to rock climbing, and basket weaving to foot races. Everything and anything the campers need to know so they wont die, they were doing it.
Piper ran passed me and hugged Annabeth and Percy, and punched Leo in the arm. Then she told them something and ran off to the woods where a couple of nymphs were waiting for her. She smiled and laughed, then disappear with them into the dark and beautiful forest. Stepping over one of Thalia's tree roots, I fist bumped Percy, Side hugged Annabeth, and punched Leo in the arm. We laughed at Leo being over dramatic and walked to the dinning pavilion to talk about what happened over the summer. The year old campers ran up to us and hugged me saying that they missed me. Why? Well because last year we had a whole bung of little kids, aging from five to nine. Tiny, I know. So Chiron told me to train them, in almost everything. I helped them in sword fights (using a wooden sword not a celestial bronze of imperial gold, duh), spear throwing, archery, and everything else besides the arts & crafts stuff.
When they hugged me, I was happy that they remembered me, but a few of the older ones weren't here, so they probably moved on to train with the others their age. I picked one up who was about Four now and put her on my shoulders, I held the hands of three others, and the last two ran around me as I followed Percy, Annabeth and Leo. Sitting down and putting the four year old on the bench next to me, I talked with my friends. Percy and Annabeth went to the same school, Goodie high, so not much happened besides the normal. You know, the weekly monster attacks.
"Jason! How was you're school year?" Madeleine asked, she was six and she never left my side.
"Yeah, Jason, how was your year?" Percy asked eating a bowl of....Lettuce?
"If you count going to school in New Rome with military like kids who know the answer almost anything," I said. "Then it was great, oh and why are you eating lettuce?"
"Cause I want Lettuce," He said and ate a piece of lettuce.
"Annie?" I asked looking at her.
"first, don't call me 'Annie' And, when we were thirteen we went on a quest to get the golden fleece, and during it, " Annabeth pause and smiled. "We got to Circe's island and there, well..."
"She turned me into a guinea pig," He said. "A guinea pig!"
The kids, Annabeth and I laughed at him. It was hard to imagine Percy as a guinea pig. But the way Annabeth was laughing, it made me wonder what he did look like. I tried to grab a leaf of lettuce from the bowl, but he growled and snatched it away from me and gave me his "do-it-again-and-I'll-kill-you" stare. Which scared me, and the kids were now terrified of him. No one knew till Ami started crying and hid behind me. The others followed suit, not crying though, just hiding behind me. Annabeth took notice, and said, "Perce, look what you did, you scared them."
"Sorry," He said and got up and went to do his thing.
Micheal tugged on my shirt and pointed to the arena. For being five, he already knew that it was time to practice with the wooden swords. He knew when it was time to do anything and he remembered everything. Anything I tell him, he'll remember.
"Ok, Lets go, bye guys," I said and walked with my little group to train them. I don't know why Chiron insisted that I be the one to train the children. I'm not that good with kids, but they seem to like me. And I have no problem training them, they're so cute! *ahem* They have so much...much...much potential! Yeah, potential.
As I was teaching the little ones how to stand correctly with their wooden swords, I saw piper walking towards us smiling brightly. I smiled back and looked at my beauty queen whom was making her way to where I was. Michael, who I was helping, noticed that I wasn't paying attention to him and whacked me with the sword. I looked at him a little pissed, he just laughed and ran away as I chased him. The others took notice of this little "tag" game and forgot their practice and ran around the arena. Emma, one of the two girls I was teaching, ran up to piper and said loudly, "Tag! You're it!"
Piper laughed at the little girl and ran towards me. I chuckled as piper speed towards me and tackled me to the ground. She kissed me and the kids "ewwed" very loudly and Piper got off me and placed a flower crown on my head. A simple flower crown with light blue flowers and dark green leaves weaved in and out of the vibes and flower steams that mad up the delicate accessory. Blushing the slightest, she placed one on herself. Light green leaves and vines wrapped around her head with light pink, yellow, and purple flowers. She smiled widely, and looked to the kids and got off of me and went over to them. She pulled flowers from seemingly no where and placed them in their hair. Emma, Madeleine, hugged Piper and asked if they could have a flower crown and Piper replied by saying that they could make one with her. Micheal, Rodrick, and Tommy ran around whacking themselves with their "swords" and their flower tucked behind their ears.
Piper smiled at me and walked off, leaving me smiling and trying to gather the kids again.
