Three weeks after Nick's death, Jess and Alex's predictions about it not mattering anymore were right. All the stupid suicide prevention stuff wasn't talked about anymore. The assemblies were over. Everything was back to normal. Even Jess was feeling much better. She was realizing how much better her life and everyone else's was without Nick. Which was quite mean, since she believe no matter what someone did they're still human. But Nick didn't just make a simple mistake, he took someone's security away. Not just one, more. It was an unforgivable act. Not to mention he was just a dick. She felt bad about it, but she had come to terms with it. She had to live with it, because she made her bed. So far, though, things were looking up.
Jess was staring off as she was trapped in a car full of boys, and she didn't mind all the smoke she was inhaling from the weed. It was just how they were acting. Whenever she smoked, she just chilled out. Whenever they did, they acted crazy. Alex was driving, just as annoyed as her. Jack was in the passenger seat, because there was no reason for Jess to sit in the passenger seat. No one knew anything about them. She sat behind Jack next to Rian, next to Zack. Rian was just tapping everything he could, but it wasn't even bad. Just obnoxious. Zack was calm. Really, Jack was just annoying to everyone. But he was their best friend and this wasn't all that bad.
"Whoa, Alex," Jack shook his arm harshly. "look at the sky."
"Yeah, I see it Jack. It's very pretty." Alex replied, shaking Jack's clammy hands off him.
"Not as pretty as you." He said seriously. There was a pause throughout the car aside from the radio blasting Alex's one-of-a-kind Blink-182 cassettes. Then, Jack started laughing hysterically at our reactions. We all groaned in reply. "Anyways, are you really looking at it? Like, really?
"Yeah, I kinda have to look that way this whole time, to see where I'm driving. Unlike you, who is such a careless driver and will kill us if we let you drive." Alex rolled his eyes.
"Alright, asshole." Jack spat and crossed his arms with an umph to his chest. He looked dramatically out the window and didn't say another word. Jess didn't know what all the talk was about, boys are definitely not way less drama than girls. At least when it came to Jack.
"Well, my mom texted me saying I have to be home in thirty, so let's start heading back to town." Jess broke the two childish boys' awkward silence.
"Sure thing." Alex replied moodily. Jess rolled her eyes once more. Alex turned around and started heading back to town, they were pretty far out. Alex dropped everyone off on the way, which left it as just him and her. She climbed up front, because of course she wasn't staying in the back. She was quiet, not wanting to spark anything about the two. It had been almost a month since Nick's death, but that wasn't long enough to get over something like that so much that you move on. She was thinking at least two months, because she can't keep living her life in shadow of Nick's death. Although, with the anxiety she was still feeling about what she did would make her live in his shadow through death. "Looks like we've reached your stop."
"Ah, and what do I owe you?" She played along as if he were a taxi driver.
"I feel like I should start charging everyone, but then I remember that I'm rich and everyone else is not. So the least I could do is drive them around town and get high for free." Alex shrugged.
"I'll see ya, Alex." She mumbled, beginning to climb out of the passenger side door.
"Hey, wait." He grabbed her forearm. She leaned back in to see what he had to say. "Where are you going so fast?"
"Well, my mom wanted me home right about now so I should get on in. Bye, Alex. Drive safe." She shut the door and walked into her house. He sighed, running his hand through his hair. One minute she's in love with him, the next she's avoiding him and they can't do this anymore. He wanted this to work, and he knew he had to give her time. It was just hard. He didn't want to get hurt so bad in this. There was obviously something up with her.
