"Remember about a couple of months ago, when the band sucked because our lead singer was Nick Wheeler? Me too. Some of the stupidest shit, why did we ever let him join the band?" Jack rolled his eyes.
"Hey, man, come on." Zack's eyes gestured to Jess beside him.
"It's fine, I don't care. I've always known how you guys felt about him, and just because he's dead doesn't change anything. I'm over it now anyways, I mean, obviously." Jess shrugged.
"I still can't believe that over the course of two months, Alex Gaskarth showed up, Rian had an awesome fucking birthday party, Alex became our lead singer and saved our asses, Nick got kicked out of the band at the same time, Nick killed himself on top of all that, and then you two became exclusive or whatever." Rian sighed, thinking about what a long two months it had been. Everyone knew the exhaustion he felt talking about all the events that had occurred.
"No kidding. I'm starting to think Alex brought the party." Jack snorted. Everyone rolled their eyes at his pun.
"Speaking of which, I've been in this band a total of two months and can you believe we're already signed and have a record out?" Alex rested his arm behind Jess.
"A terrible one at that, might I add." Jess chuckled.
"Oh come on!" All the boys exclaimed.
"I'm kidding, but thanks for giving me the honors of having the first one. And signed, maybe I'll make a bunch of money off of it in a couple of years." She smiled.
"You really think we'll make it that far?" Alex asked her.
"Of course I do, you guys are great." She nodded. "I mean, you've got a tour coming up over Christmas break, even if it is only for a week and only in little places. It's still something."
"You're right, I love having such a positive best friend. It's really great." Rian gave her a smile.
"Thanks, Ri, means so much." She put her hand dramatically over her heart. "I think it's the nicest thing you've ever said to me."
Eventually, their hang out session was over and Alex was driving around down town before he had to take Jess home. He just wanted to spend a bit of alone time with her. "So, Thanksgiving break starts tomorrow. What are you doing?" Jess sighed, not wanting to tell Alex what she got guilt-tripped into doing. It would probably not make him feel so good. She just felt so bad, after everything that had happened. She just couldn't say no. It's not like she really had a desire to do it, she was just so guilty. "Well?"
"Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler invited me over for dinner tomorrow. I've went for the past two years." She mumbled, playing with her ripped jeans nervously. Alex glanced over at her.
"And you're going to go a third?" He asked. She nodded.
"I feel bad, Alex. I killed their son. They still see me as their daughter-in-law. They love me, and it'll make them happy. It'll make their Thanksgiving." She shrugged. "It's like my good deed for the holidays."
"So, what? You're just gonna jump every time they say so?" He furrowed his eyebrows.
"Alex, I feel bad. Why is it a big deal?" She looked over at him, who wouldn't look over at her.
"It's not, I just thought you wouldn't want to go back there. I thought you really had moved on from him, Jess-"
"I have." She frowned at his statement.
"So why are you going back to his parents' house for Thanksgiving? Doesn't sound like you've moved on to me." He turned down her road.
"They haven't moved on, Alex. There's a difference. Does it kill to be a good person? Why is it so bad?" She was still so confused.
