Today was just another normal day. I woke up, ate breakfast, sorted through e-mails, and went on my daily drive. I went on drives everyday, sometimes I'd stop somewhere, sometimes I wouldn't. It was really more of a therapudic thing. Today I didn't plan on stopping, as I was quite tired, but I had a sudden urge to stop at the beach as I approached the turn, so I did.

I pulled up to a parking spot and put my hair up into a ponytail, fixing my sunglasses so they sit on my face right. I locked the car and began walking along the sand towards the water, letting my toes sink in.

Thoughts started to fill my mind as my feet went along the hot ground. Thoughts about work, my friends, life in general, which mine was beginning to crumble. My friends had been distant lately because of me being at work all the time, and I'd been getting stressed out about everything.

What happened next could be described by none other than fate. A cute guy, looked about my age, walked up to me.

"Hey, are you okay?" he asked, and suddenly I became aware of my surroundings. I'd stopped walking and was staring at the ground for who knows how long. "Uh, yeah, I'm fine, sorry." He looked at me confused. "What're you sorry for?" I shrugged, "I-I don't know. I'm not wasting your time?" He laughed a little, "No, I mean I was the one who came up to you."

"Yeah, true." I said, which probably hinted that I wanted him to go away, but I really didn't. "It just looked like something was wrong, that's all." "Oh, no no no, everything's fine, just a lot on my mind." I could tell he didn't want to pry anything more out of me, that he was trying not to sound creepy. He lifted his hand for me to shake, which I did, and he said, "I'm sorry, I didn't introduce myself, I'm Joey." I smiled, he was nice. "Nicole."

He scratched the back of his neck, unsure of what to say. "Guess I better get going then, see ya around?" I smiled and nodded at him, and he began to walk away.

But, I kept my eyes on him, soon realizing that he was the first person in a while to want to talk to me, and I didn't want to let go of that. I jogged a couple paces toward him, "Uh, Joey?" He turned around. "Do you wanna like, hang out sometime? It doesn't have to be like a date, um, I'm sorry. Am I being pushy?" He laughed, "No no, I was actually thinking of asking you the same thing." I smiled up at him, maybe this could work out.
