I took a once-over of myself in the mirror for the fifth time that afternoon. I wanted everything to be perfect for my date with Joey. I had to make a good impression, it was the first date we've ever had. I had on a black dress that was speckled with little daisy's that went a little higher than my knee. I paired it with strappy brown sandals and a over the shoulder brown bag. We were just going to a little cafe so I figured casual attire would be best. My hair curled wildly around my head and i tried to flatten it down once again. But then again, Joey said he had liked that about me. I checked my phone to see he was on his way to my apartment. I waited on the couch and played a game on my phone to pass the time. When he texted me he was here I craned my neck to look in the mirror once more, then left to go to his car.

"Hey." He said to me as I climbed in and he sped away. "Hi." I blushed, looking down. From the corner of my eye I saw him grinning. The rest of the car ride was a comfortable quiet and small talk.

After finally finding a parking spot I went to open the door. Before my hand could push it open Joey nearly fell trying to open it for me. I laughed at his small attempt and thanked him, but only after tripping on the curb myself. We decided to eat outside, the weather was nice and the sun felt good against my skin. I sipped on my lemonade and looked over the menu. "What are you getting?" Joey asked. I shrugged and looked up. "What about you?" He thought for a moment and replied with the usual "Chicken and brown rice." "I think I'll just get a sandwich."

The food came and we talked between mouthfuls. I took a sip of water just as he said something funny. I struggled between laughing and not choking. I ended up having water trickle from my nose and i spluttered. "I almost just died!" I said wiping at my mouth with a napkin. He laughed with me and then for some reason I just couldn't stop.

After we ate Joey very graciously paid for the bill and he drove me back home. "I'll walk you in." he said and I nodded. On the way to the elevator somehow his hand was in mine and I squeezed once. And wow I felt sparks from this tiny touch. We reached my door and he turned to me. "Wow Nicole I had a really nice time tonight." He said. "Yeah, I did too." He smiled down at me. "I know I don't usually kiss on the first date but I just cant help it." My breath stuttered as he leaned down and connected his lips with mine. It was short and sweet but precious all the same. He waved bye after as I stood stunned in front of my door.
