Twenty years ago today, on June 26th 1997 (when all my wee Little Toilers were especially wee), the world was blessed with a children's book about an orphaned boy named Harry, with glasses, messy hair, and a scar on his forehead in the shape of a lightning bolt. This book would go on to be something that each one of us would hold very dear. And for that gift, we thank its creator, J.K. Rowling!

In many ways, the world of Harry Potter has moved from her hand to ours, as the fandom has grown so immense with seven books, eight movies, a spinoff series, endless amounts of merchandise, theme parks, podcasts, websites, conventions, fanfiction and more. It has now become ours, a world shared equally among the fans from across the four corners of the globe, for how it has connected each one of us. In our memories are many great friendships and midnight release parties. Themed birthdays, dances, and weddings. Names of pets and children. Art on our walls and inked on our bodies. We have read the books when we should have been sleeping, heard the names of our favorite characters spoken through the voices of loved ones as they sat beside our bed. Together, we've wept and laughed, we growled and grimaced. We memorized lines and accents, dressed in robes and costumes. We Sorted ourselves into houses and waited expectantly each fall, with our eyes on the clouds, for a letter to arrive by owl post. And of course, when no one was looking, we tried a spell or two.
To the dear, dog-eared pages of Harry Potter, we love you. We will be forever grateful for what you've given us, for it shaped our minds and hearts. And we sincerely promise that your beloved story will be carried on for generations to come. For we are your readers, your witches, your wizards. Your Muggles and Squibs. Heck, even your No-maj's! We, Harry Potter, are your fans forever. For we are the fandom that lived!
