Keith's POV

The next day, Lance wanted to take me hiking on the mountains with his friends Hunk and Pidge. At first, I was excited to meet new people and to go hiking with friends for the first time. But then Lance said something about needing me to hike lower the mountain so I don't get get scared or something at the top. This made me furious.

"Lance! You can't do this to me!" I crossed my arms and watched him tie my shoelaces from above. Lance rolled his eyes and stood up.

"You understand why I don't want you hiking to the top, right?"

"No! Lance, listen, I said I wanted to fly. Being near the top of the mountain makes me feel closest to being like a bird! I want to see the world beneath me" I walk pass him despite his orders. I could feel lance glaring at me from behind but that didn't stop me.

Pidge and Hunk watched me storm off again in surprise. They turned to each other and shared the same crazy facial expression. Lance groans and pats on Hunk's shoulder, signalling him to watch after me.

"Keith is... one hell of a guy, i've got to say" Pidge whispers to Hunk, thinking I didn't hear. Even from a few feet up the mountain, my hearing was perfectly clear.

Hunk climbs right next to me and I furrowed my eyes brows. "Hey, Hunk. Do you mind telling Lance to back off for me?"

"Why? He's just a really caring guy."

"Oh so you're going to defend him?"

"Listen i'm not on anyones side, okay? It's just-Lance doesn't want you getting hurt" Hunk tries to reason with me. I get the feeling that he is actually on Lance's side but is trying not to look like a betraying asshole to me.

When we reached the top of the mountain, I noticed how much thinner the air was. The altitude was much higher. Hunk hands me an apple juice and I stick the straw between my lips and take a nice long sip. Pidge was setting up a tent so we could sleep there over night.

I laid on the hard rocky ground and stared up into the light blue sky. 'I'm a bird' i thought to myself. 'I made it all the way up here and i'm doing okay. I didn't get any heart attacks.'

I scowled at Lance as he was lighting a cigarette between his teeth. Looks like he was wrong about me having a heart failure at these oh so 'dangerous' activities. I suppose now he would stop babying me.

For some reason, I kind of expected Lance to grimace at me or give me a look that says 'my argument is still right' but Lance just views me with crestfallen eyes. For a second, I kind of regret rebelling against him.

"Tent's ready! Who wants to play jenga?" Pidge thrusts her fist in the air, reenacting the last scene from The Breakfast Club.

Hunk drops his mac and cheese and runs into the tent, almost tipping it over the edge.

I walked in behind Lance and we sat together on the hard tent floor. We're suppose to sleep here tonight? Well shit. I'll break my back. This is going to be the most uncomfortable camping night ever. Especially that we're alone on top of a mountain and it's a lot colder. We don't even have a fire set up for warmth. Although it was summer, the weather up on the mountains seemed to have a mind of it's own. It's just as rebellious as I am.

We take turns pulling out a block, trying not to tip over the Jenga stack. Growing up, I always played this on the dining room table with Jess and Noah. It became a good way to entertain me from boredom. But as time passed, my aunt and uncle became more busy and didn't have a lot
of time to play with me so I ended up playing alone. Jess was always cooking and talking on the house phone and Noah was always out trading and buying from the townspeople.
