You could say the dinner was a disaster. My mother's endless questions kept popping right after the other. I seriously thought she would never stop. I tried stuffing my mouth with food in order to avoid talking about anything.

"You know I'm so glad that you are dating my daughter, shes been a lonely for quite some time and the only relationship that I know of her having was in middle school and that was only for what? A week right honey?"

I close my eyes "Yes Mom! But I also had a boyfriend in freshman year too you know" I retorted, I could see George eyes wide open in awe.

"Oh the one that moved away?"

"Ugh yes mom, the one that moved away." This was embarrassing.

"Well Mrs. Lewis"

"Elizabeth" she corrected him.

"...Elizabeth" he smiled "I'm sure glad to be dating your daughter. She's the sweetest and most beautiful girl I ever met and really talented playing the violin I must say."

My mom clasped her hands together and smiled. "That is so sweet George."

"I'm just speaking the truth." George rests his arm around my shoulder.

I roll my eyes.

"You both make such a cute couple, do you want some dessert?"

"No" I bark

"Yes" George chimed.

After dinner we mom gave us some time to talk 'alone' in the living room but I knew very well she was listening. "Lets go outside." I lead him to our rusty front porch.

I sigh before sitting down. "Okay exactly what in the world do you think you are doing?"

He rubs his stomach, "your mom is a good cook"

"...You do know my mom didn't cook the food. It was take out.

"Hmm"

"Okay look stop changing the subject."

"I'm not, look it just seemed like you needed help that's why I did it. Ok. Happy?"

"I don't need your help George in fact you made things worse."

"Worse? How did I....? Look if you want I can go in and tell your mom we're not dating and I made it all up. Problem solved." He gets up.

I hesitate and ponder. What if he told my mom about Mr. Calvin and blackmail me, but it could also help me when I went out with Mr. Calvin.

"What? You're thinking about it aren't you?"

"No..I" I retort. "It's just"

"Oh I see you don't want no one to find out about Mr. old man. So you want me to be the cover up."

I cover his mouth. "Shhhhh."

He pushes my hand away "I still don't know why you're with him."

"Not this again."

"It's the truth he's your freaking teacher right? He's older than us and hes not even good looking."

"First of all yes he is and second of all it's none of your business."

He doesn't reply but looks down.

"You won't tell anyone will you?"

"Will you hate me if I did?"

My stomach began to hurt and I could feel my palms get sweaty. "Yes George I would hate you and never speak to you ever again."

He sighs, "That's what I thought. Look I'm only going to do this until the end of your senior year but that's it. You will have to tell your mother after that ok?"

"yeah...ok" I mutter

"It's not like I can change your mind. Maybe in another life you would like me instead of him." He sighs.  "I see you later peep squeak." He rubs my shoulder and walks towards his car. "See you at the charity event" He yells.

Oh George why do you do this to me.
