Recap:

The calmness didn't last for long as Phillipe soon growled a warning, and the old man was forced to stay put or back away. He stayed put.

The growl which I at first thought was directed at him got louder, but it was in fact directed elsewhere...

Chapter 20 "When things go bad it can always get worse"

Will's POV

I was slightly worried that Phil would've lost it when Angela started her lecture. Phillipe had never been the one to take criticism very well, not even in school. When he was calm and not influenced by any negative emotions he would listen. The only problem was that Phillipe at the moment wasn't calm.

To confront an uncollected Phillipe had never been a wise choice, and I wondered if Angela wasn't a bit crazy to be doing so. Or maybe she was one of the other two alternatives; stupid (which I doubted) or very brave.

I watched Abe lay a smoothing but firm hand on her shoulder to hinder her from actually causing the Alpha to transform. He advanced slowly towards Phillipe who's fist's were curled and shaking.

"Calm down son," Abe said in his southern accent. "You're not doing yourself or anybody else a favour by transforming or acting as your he did. You are better than this. I've known you since you were a mere babe, do not make the same mistakes as your father did."

Abe had always had a way of calming even the wildest wolf. Maybe that was why the pack sometimes called him Uncle Moon. The moon was smoothing after all.

I stood completely still and quiet as I was watching, but when Phillipe once again growled my senses went on red alert. This wasn't the warning sounds had been escaping him earlier. It was something much darker, deeper, louder and much more aggressive.

I was now focused on three things as my Alpha became very defensive. Sight, sound, smell... Sight, sound smell. Sight, sound, ... SMELL!

The sent was icy, but not nice like ice cream or freshly fallen snow. No, this smell was sticking in my nose and lungs. It was disgustingly sweet, like rotting flesh.

"My, my," said a shilling voice "It would seem like the dogs are having a bark." Someone snickered.

Phillipe didn't make any attempt to calm himself and so he growled out "I know you're hiding in the shadows vampire. Come out and state your business on my territory!"

"You know patience is a virtue, Storm," stated the bloodsucker as he stepped out from his hiding place.

Phillipe rolled his eyes at it and repeated growling "State your business leech!"

"Grumpy are we?"

Phillipe growled once more.

"Yeah yeah. Claude wanted me to tell you that there as been a couple of attacks as of lately. It may have something to do with the escape of a few dhampirs but we're tracking them down. He also liked me to tell you that he knows what happened," the bloodsucker stated casually.

"You've done what you came here for now get of my land!"

"Tsk,tsk. So very rude and I even brought a gift," he said and held up a sack which he had had slung over his shoulder. He let it fall to the ground and added "You're welcome."

Then he left. Laughing.

Aunt Angela's POV

My temper seemed to be slowly cooling down. I am sure it was Abe and that bloody leech that turned it from Phillipe. The boy had always looked a lot like his father and the way he's been acting lately didn't hide that resemblance at all. In fact it was almost déjà vu.

I had tuned out during the conversation between Phillipe and that leech. But now I started to come back to earth as the youngsters called it. Tyler had now together with Phillipe and Will walked over to the big plastic bag. Tyler bent down and untied the knot...

A scream ripped from my throat as I laid eyes on the contents.

Will's POV

I watched as Tyler untied the bag and it's contents rolled out on the grass. Together with fresh blood came something round and hairy.

A head, a girls head to be more precise.

" Aaahhh!" The scream had come from Aunt Angela's throat and as if the sound wasn't terrifying enough, I started to recognise the severely damaged face. James will go mental.

The head of the girl that laid before us was no one other than Erica's. Erica who I'd just seen a few minutes ago, was dead. It seamed like the others recognised her as well.

"She must have left to find James after your argument this morning," said Tyler and looked at us. Phillipe's head was bowed, but he dragged his hands through his hair. He mumbled to himself "I do not need to deal with this. Not right now. Why oh why do the universe like to make things difficult for me?"

But to us he said "Put it back in the bag and try to get rid of the blood. Will, go and alert some of the other scouters we need to search for the rest of her body. If you see James keep him away. In fact lock him into the basement." He put no emotion in those words other than that of an Alpha. As I cast one final glance at Erica's head I gulped. They seemed to be getting bolder, the leeches that is. This wasn't the first casualty this month, it was the third.

I walked with heavy steps back to the packhouse. It wasn't fun having to call everyone, easier on the phone yes but no the less horrible to tell the news. Talk about having a bomb dropped at work.

Victoria's POV

I climbed down the tree in a hurry to ask Phillipe what had happened. I hadn't seen what was in the bag, but I had definitely smelt blood. Werewolf blood.

As soon as my feet touched the ground I began running. I reached Phillipe in no time. His back was turned to me so I couldn't see his expression.

"What was that?" I asked.

He turned his head around, a bit surprised might I add. "Erica is dead," he stated plainly.

"I smelt the blood."

"I can imagine," he said. Still no emotion in his voice.

"She was James' mate wasn't she?" I wondered. He nodded staring strait ahead as I came around to stand beside his.

"I sorry. I know your pack means a lot." He nodded once again.

He needs you more than ever...

I ignored it and continued to watch his face.

"Will you be alright?" I asked and he answered the same way. He was never this quiet.

I don't know what possessed me to do it. I don't even know why, but it seemed right, so I took his hand in mine and squeezed tight.
