"I win."

Those two words eroded all the confidence and determination Sakura had within her. It felt as though all her mighty strength had disappeared. She couldn't move, she couldn't speak, she was overcome with a feeling she couldn't explain. It wasn't fear, sadness or anger; those emotions didn't sound right at all.

A part of her continuously insisted that she would lose against Sasuke, even before the battle had begun. But Sakura never wanted the taste of victory. The only thing on her mind was how to stop Sasuke so he would listen to her. So she could make him understand and think about his plans for revenge.

Yet the situation she was in, ridiculed her. She couldn't make Sasuke listen. She had failed all her friends back in Konoha, she had failed her teachers and she had failed Naruto.

Her life rested in Sasuke's hands. He had won and now he would decide whether or not to spare her life or destroy it. Sakura allowed the tears to fall from her eyes and down her cheek. Sasuke already thought of her as weak, crying in front of him now wouldn't make him think any lower. She stared back at Sasuke's indignant glare for a moment before closing her eyes. All there was left to do was wait for Sasuke's decision.

...

The wind started to sing while the branches and leaves danced along. The wind touched Sasuke's face and brushed his dark hair away from his eyes. He looked down at Sakura. Her eyes were closed as she cried, her tears inking wet patterns as they fell. Some strands of her pink hair were stuck to her cheeks, and although she was crying, there was no sign of fear or grief. Her expression showed nothing but serenity and composure.

"Look at me, Sakura" Sasuke ordered. The Uchiha became surprised at the harsh tone of his voice. It was the sight of Sakura crying that bothered him. He wondered why it did. Perhaps he hated the way she shamelessly cried for him, the way she let him see how vulnerable she was, the way she showed him that he was her tragic weakness.

Or he wondered if his agitation rose from the memories of his idyllic life in Konoha, which came rushing back from the sight of those tears. Memories of their genin days, memories of when Sakura had worried for him for him, laughed with him, smiled with him. And those words. Those last words Sakura had screamed to him before he abandoned the village. Whatever the reason, Sasuke couldn't help but admit that her tears affected him. And as the Uchiha who would later get revenge on Konoha, he couldn't have any weakness; his resolve had to be strong.

...

Sakura swallowed hard, preparing herself for what was coming next. She opened her eyes, looking back into the onyx eyes of the Uchiha. There was anger in his expression, and another emotion that she couldn't quite understand. Sasuke simply continued to stare down at her, remaining silent. His gaze became overly intense, causing an uncomfortable feeling to flutter down Sakura's spine.

"You had no chance of winning. Your plans have become pointless" Sasuke began.

"I have many people pursuing me, trying to kill me. Killing you will only increase the number and strength they come in. Time is something I don't plan to waste" the Uchiha contiued, loosening his grip on Sakura's arms.

"Go back to Konoha, Sakura, don't come after me anymore."

"If I can't stop you, Naruto will" Sakura said, trying to raise her voice at the man in front of her. Sakura pushed herself up; she didn't need these useless orders.

Sasuke pushed her back down, causing Sakura to hiss out in pain. She narrowed her eyes at him, the pain beating like a drum at the back of her head. There was a moment of silence and then Sakura saw Sasuke's lips part. He was laughing, his amusement nefarious and cold.
