Chapter 7    (Tommy’s POV)

I was happy that Daren was awake. I walked out of Daren’s room. Nurses and doctors were running around the hallway. Some of them were going in and out of Mom’s room. My heart started to beat faster. I stopped a nurse that was frantically running to Mom’s room.

“What’s going on?” I asked the nurse.

“Chantelle White’s heart just stopped. We are trying to save her but the doctors think that it’s too late,” the nurse answered.

No! No! She can’t be dead! She has to live! Where will I go? What will happen now? I leaned up against the wall. My knees started to feel weak and I started to slide down the wall. I put my head in my hands and started to shout, “No! No! No! She can’t be dead!”

“Excuse me sir. Do you know Ms.White?” the nurse asked politely.

I looked up at her, “Yeah I do. She was my mom.”

“Oh. I’m sorry for your loss,” the nurse said.

The nurse then quickly walked away from me. I stood up and looked in the direction that the nurse ran off to. They were wheeling Mom’s bed out of the room with a blanket covering her face. It was true she was dead and gone from my life like my dad. God this is all my fault! If I hadn’t picked that fight with Nick I would have been beside Mom and the doctors might have been able to save her. I can’t…

“What’s going on?” Samantha broke me of my thoughts. She was standing beside me now.

“She… She… She’s dead,” I choked out.

Samantha’s face went pale. She was trying to choke back sobs but was failing. I stepped forward and grabbed her into a hug. She put her head on my chest and cried softly. I rested my chin on top of her head. I tried to keep from crying but I couldn’t. We stayed in each others arms for a little bit before Samantha stepped back and looked up at me.

“She’s in a better place now,” Samantha said sweetly.

“I know. What’s going to happen to me?” I asked. I didn’t want to leave her again. I felt that I finally am getting her to trust me again.

I feel like a 5 year old again and I had stolen a cookie from the cookie jar. I felt as if I was going to get in trouble at any moment and I didn’t know what was going to happen. For the first time in years I felt scared.

“We will try and convince my mom to let you stay with us,” she told me.

Before I could replie Charlotte came storming through the elevator doors looking angry. I felt Samantha tense up. Fear quickly took over her beautiful eyes.

“I can’t stay. Text me when she is gone,” Samantha said quickly as she started to head to the stairway but before she got to the doors she turned around, “Tell Daren not to worry. Bye.”

Samantha walked through the doors to the stairway. Where was she going? Hopefully somewhere safe. I walked back to Daren’s room. Charlotte was sitting in a chair crying.

Daren looked up at me, “Where’s Samantha?”

“She left,” I replied.

Charlotte got up and walked over to me. She looked very angry. Now I know why Samantha left.

“Where did she go? I need to punish her for killing your mom!” she yelled.

“Mom, it was an accident. It’s nobody’s fault that we ended up in the hospital. Give Samantha some slack. She didn’t kill Chantelle,” Daren stood up for his sister.
