Chapter 28

I was on my way to school in my own car. I still felt like poop and was going home after the plan. I arrived at school later than usual. I walked to my locker and waited for the bell. All I had to do was get through the first two periods then I could go home. Nick and I had planned to the act at lunch instead of waiting the whole day or doing it right off the bat. I was to meet him a couple minutes before second period ended. The plan was to take place outside of Tommy’s class.

Ding Dong! The bell went off and I walked to my first class. All I had to do was get through English and chemistry. I couldn’t wait to go back to the comfort of my bed. I felt better in my bed than walking around school like a zombie.

I got to my English classroom and sat beside Cassandra like I always do. The teacher hadn’t arrived yet. I turned to Cassandra.

“You look like shit,” Cassandra told me.

“Thanks for the concern,” I joked.

“How are you holding up?” She asked.

“Fine,” I spoke as the teacher walked in.

I turned around and pulled out my homework. I looked down to make sure everything was fine. POOP! I forgot to do it. I have never forgotten to do my homework before. What is Dad going to do? Hopefully he’ll be fine with it cause it’s only my first time. Well except for that one time back in grade four when I didn’t finish my math problems but that’s beside the point. I have never forgotten to do homework before. I didn’t even write one sentence about the book I read.

The teacher walked around collecting everyone’s homework. When he got to me I looked up and him and placed my folder on top of the pile. I felt ashamed. I had always done my homework and I have never fallen behind. Why is this year different? I’m way behind on all my classes. I sat worrying about my book report for the rest of the class. When the bell rang I sprung up and bolted out of the classroom. I walked down the hall towards my chemistry classroom. I meet up with Ash along the way.

“Do I want to know why you look like shit this morning?” Ash asked.

“Thanks for telling me,” I said sarcastically.

“No problem. Did you finish the chemistry homework? It was hard and I couldn’t figure out some of the questions,” Ash spoke.

POOP! I forgot about the chemistry homework too. This day is turning into a nightmare. I let out a groan.

“I forgot to do it. Sorry Ash,” I told him.

“What’s going on with you lately? You look like shit. You aren’t doing your homework and your behind in every class. Plus you have bruises covering your pretty face,” Ash asked.

“Nothing that you need to worry about,” I snapped.

Why does everyone want to know what happened to my face? Do you want to know what happened to my face?

“I was just asking,” Ash defended his self.

“Why does everyone want to know what happened to my face? Lyric the little girl at the park yesterday wanted to know and her fucking mom wanted to know as well! Do you want to know what the fuck happened to my face? Well Jake and Steve. That’s why my face looks like shit. Also I look like shit because I caught Tommy making out with Vanessa yesterday! He was cheating on me for fucks sakes!” I yelled. I fell to my knees crying. I couldn’t take it anymore. Why was my world like this?

Ash pulled me into a hug and whispered into my ear, “Everything will be fine. Does Tommy know that you saw?”

I wiped my tears before speaking, “No. Nick and I have a plan. I’m sorry Ash for screaming at you.”
