Fitting In

The vampire hardened his grip on my arm, until his nails were digging into my pale flesh. I softly whimpered at the rough skin contact.

"I won't repeat myself again you leech. Let her go or otherwise I'll rip your heart out and feed it to hungry dogs!"

Oh, the irony.

I already smelt that he was a werewolf, but why was he defending me on his land? Shouldn't it be me instead of this vampire, to get threatened by him? I mean, after all I was still a rouge on an already marked territory.

I was ripped out of my thoughts when the cold hand of the vampire was forcefully removed from my arm. I was now staring at the sight infront of me, the vampire getting strangled by the mysterious man who saved me. The vampires eyes were turning from their unnatural, intensive green colour to a colder dull tone.

The werewolf brought the leech's face closer to his, and if I wouldn't have been blessed with my great hearing, I would have almost missed his next words.

"When I tell you to let her go, you will  let her go. Understand? If I ever see you or one of your bloodsucking friends around her in a radius of 10 meters, I will kill you with my bare hands. Do not touch her. Now leave."

He slammed the vampire against a next standing brick wall and watched him scurrying away from us. When he was sure that the vampire was gone, he turned towards me and looked at me.

His penetranting eyes looking my whole body over for any injuries from the attack.

He acted like a protective mate.

I thought to myself.

Wait.

What if he is?

I gasped and looked shocked at him. What if I couldn't feel the connection that mates normally feel when they meet their mate for the first time?

"Oh my god."

I mumbled under my breath. I wouldn't be surprised, I mean I was the weird one who lost her wolf and gained her back years after. Why was the moon goddess being so difficult with me?

"Why can't I feel the bond?" I asked myself and shook my head. My eyes were slowly watering.

"What connection?"

The male standing infront of me asked, completly confused.

I looked up, meeting his pale gray eyes.

"Aren't mates supposed to feel the bond between them? Why can't I feel ours?"

I furrowed my eyebrows.

Realization hit him, which was followed by amusement.

"We are not mates, otherwise we both would have felt the bond in some kind of way." He casually stated. But why was he protecting me then a few moments ago?

I asked my question loudly, after asking that question he looked a bit uneasy.

He had no reason, but he still defended me. I couldn't trust him, yes he saved my life but that doesn't mean that I could trust him and tell him everything.

"I don't think that we should talk here," he stopped mid sentence and looked around if someone was paying attention to our conversation. "Especially not after what happened here."

He said, indirecting to the vampire.

I slowly nodded and followed him after he told me we would go to a place where we could talk.

Was I naïve to follow a stranger who recently saved my life? Yes, I was. But I was also curious and you know what they say, curiosity killed the cat.
