"What's the date today." I say knowing the date already knowing
"The twenty fifth of October."
"That's right."
"Should I send the text."
"You sure should." She taps at her phone.
"Sent." I almost hear every phone in school go off.
I then hear people chin wagging, all about this party I have almost every year.

Last year was not pretty like at all. Loads of vomit and alcohol. It took us all day to clean up, I found loads of food everywhere. It really was an ugly party, but the best one yet. It was a mad house, it ended because I found that someone had brought weed, not a massive fan of the stuff. I hate it when people smoke it.

"Mercury!" Michael calls.
"Michael."
"I got a text, are you sure you want to invite me?" He questions. Two days ago, I was going to explain that Michael had been last year, but I was interrupted by Ben, as always.
"Erm you probably don't remember now but you came last year as well lovey." I explain. Last year, Michael came as a plus one with Luke and he got extremely drunk, so drunk that he passed out. I believe he was going through a heartbreak ad that's why it happened so quickly and I'm sure that why he couldn't remember.
"Oh yeah that's the day I lost my v-card." I then cover my ears not wanting to know the rest. Last year was mental for Michael. He passed out for half and hour and then when we had awoken he was completely sober, leading him to lose his virginity to a friend of mine. Linda instantly starts flirting with the red haired boy as soon as she comes over. And surprisingly Michael flirts back. I wasn't sure on how Linda felt after our movie night about George, I knew she took an interest in Michael but I was scared she was just using him for the feeling of being loved, that's what Linda craved and what most people craved after coming out of a relationship. I look confused until Ben comes over.
"Hey M." And he pecks my lips
"Hey B."
"What are you doing after school today." He says clearly forgetting the date
"Setting up for tonight, it's the twenty-fifth of October B!" I say excitedly
"Oh yeah." He says un-enthusiastically
"What's up Ben." George says, just arriving.
"Nothing." He says.
"Ben."
"What!" He snaps
"I don't know what's got into you, now come talk to me." And I pull his arm so we're alone.
"My mum."
"Your mum." I repeat
"Well she's just been diagnosed with cancer."
"Oh Ben." I wrap my small arms around his torso. I hear sniffles
"I'm not going to say it'll be okay, because as you know, I know it isn't. It will be hard but she wouldn't want to crying now would she?"
he shakes his head
"Now, eyes wide, chin up and smiles on, ok." He follows my instructions and adds one on by intertwining our fingers. Bless him. I look up at him and smile as he repeats but looks down as I'm an elf.
"Now are you going to help me set up, you don't have to." I ask Ben.
"Yeah I need something to take my mind off things." I sympathetically smile at him as we walk back to our group of friends. I wasn't going to be majorly sympathetic because when a family member or friend gets an illness such as cancer, sympathy isn't going to get you anywhere, you just need to be there for them to support them through this hard time.
"Twelve-thirty, here, SHARP."
They all salute and all mumble a quick good bye as we all depart to go to our lessons

"Mercury you cannot leave!"
"Yes I can and I will right now." I say getting stares from the class.
"Oh miss, you don't know what you've got yourself into." A boy call Zack says.
I go grab my bag and throw it over my shoulder.
"Bye guys, don't forget 5:30 at the earliest." They all start chattering about the upcoming party. As I leave the room. I shut the door behind me.
"Mercury!" Ben screams
"Ben!"I scream back
"Now we have about 2 hours to get the house ready and then another two hours to get ourselves ready." Linda says very organised as usual.
"That's means while we get ready you can get the fireworks ready."
"Cool." Michael says they all mumble a cool as we make our way out to Michael's car.
"Fireworks go boom." Michael says we all giggle
"That's right Michael fireworks do go boom." I say like I would to a child.
"Dibs the front." Ben says. We all groan at his childish behaviour, we were using Michaels car as I wasn't able to supply transport!
"Alright B have your seat." Linda says.
We get in the vehicle and make our way back to my house.
