Two years later

Germans left from Greece one day in 1944. The sky became blue again, the sun was shining more than before, the birds were singing again and happiness came back to every person's house.

Greece was freed again as many other countries in the world.

Germans had remained only in a few countries in the world, but one year later they left from there too.

The war was finally over.

With him the sadness was over too.

Since them many changes happened, most of them were good.

First of all our Dimitri came back with Viktoria by his side. Both of them were safe and sound, which made us extremely happy.

But what made us happier was the surprise that came with them.

While they were in the mountain, Dimitri was visiting the house in which Viktoria was living in the nearest village every night.

Seems like one of their nights gave its fruits, because Viktoria got pregnant by my brother. When Viktoria understood about her pregnancy, she told it to Dimitri and my brother was so happy that without a second thought, asked from her to be his wife.

They had a small wedding in the church of the village. One of Dimitri's friends who was fighting by his side became their best man and later the godfather of their son, of our little Christos. He was named after Jesus, as Viktoria wanted.

But before their marriage, Viktoria was baptised into a Christian Orthodox, as she had swore.

She had finally fulfilled what she had vowed.

Now her new name was Fotini (=Light in greek) because she had been lightened by the Holy Spirit.

That's why she had named her son after Jesus and she had been baptised into a Christian Orthodox.

When we saw them for first time after two years were the happiest, maybe a little shocked about the baby and the sudden marriage, but still happy.

Well, my mother had fainted when she had learned what had happened. She was dreaming of another girl being by her beloved son's side, but it was too late.

So she had to accept the new reality. Maybe she didn't like her daughter in law at all, but she had absolutely loved her grandson, as everyone in the family.

Viktoria's or better Fotini's parents when learned what their daughter had done, they didn't want to know her. That had hurt the girl a lot, but all of us were by her side, welcoming her to our family.

She hoped that her son would manage to fix the relationship between her and her family. She wasn't wrong, after a few months her family started talking to her again.

Dimitri had became the best husband and father. First of all, he managed to find a house next to ours in order for his wife to have help from us either with the housework or with the child.

After that he started working with my father and his friend at the office, while he was studying in order to finish university. Also he was helping Fotini a lot of with the child too, he absolutely loved them.

We were very proud of him, we were admiring him every single day. He had changed a lot to better.

Since the war was over, Anastasia worked for a few months as a volunteer nurse and then she stopped, because extra nurses weren't needed anymore. But our family doctor needed some help so she went to help as a nurse at his office in order to help him.
