🌊
Dark clouds that swallow the rolling hills of the tiny island. The gentle hum of moving wind. The splash of waves. Concrete streets paved his way through narrow lanes and gaps between houses.
The town felt forgotten. No cars parked on street corners. No loud teens hollering in the town centre. The only busy places appeared to be the occasional pubs.
Kellin pushed his hair from his eyes. Each step lead him closer to the harbour until he passed the entrance to the dockyard. The island was unfamiliar. The city streets of Oregon seemed a world away.
"Can I help you?" Kellin's head snapped up. Four boys sat in the harbour. "You're not meant to be hanging around here, dude... It's dangerous if you don't know it well." The tall boy's quite American accent was almost soothing. Well, it would have been if he hadn't been over six foot tall and covered in tattoos.
"Tone? Who're you talking to?" At that point Kellin was convinced everyone on the island was practically eight foot tall as another boy approached them. "Oh, we got a straggler? Tony, go get Vic, he'll know what to do." The first boy, Tony, walked deeper into the harbour, disappearing between wooden boxes and crab traps. "What's your name, kid?"
"K-Kellin."
"I'm Mike, that was my boyfriend Tony." The tall boy grinned, looking over in the direction Tony had walked. "That's Vic, my brother." Mike mumbled, pointing at a short tan boy.
"Younger?"
"Older." Mike laughed. Kellin raised his eyebrows a quiet 'oh' leaving his parted lips.
"What you laughing at?" Vic frowned as Mike walked off with Tony, still laughing. "Anyway. How'd you get lost out here?"
"We moved to Shapinsay and got the ferry out here this morning. I was exploring and didn't realise my dad left on the last ferry. So I'm stranded."
"Well. I'm Vic, my dad, my brother, my two best friends and I run the ferries. So jump in a boat and I'll drop you home." Kellin smiled and nodded, following the slightly taller boy through the harbour.
