🌊A deafening silence had settled over the small house. It was almost two am and Vic was sat watching a film on the sofa. He had put the kids to bed but decided to stay up until Kellin got home.
The younger man had been out since five o'clock, with who; Vic didn't know. The anxiety over Kellin's whereabouts was only getting worse the longer Vic stared at the TV screen. The click of the front door and the sound of footsteps in the hall pulled Vic from his thoughts. Kellin appeared in the living room doorway, bags under his eyes and hair scruffy.
"Have you been awake this whole time?" His voice was deeper than usual, throat raspy.
"Yea, well, I couldn't get Liam down until 12 and by then I was just worried about you. Besides, Grease is a great film." His lips curved up slightly, the smile not reaching his tired eyes.
"You didn't need to be worried."
"Kellin, how could I not be? You've been out for like, eight hours, with people I don't know in a place you don't know."
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you where I was going. I-I just knew you would stop me." Tears started gathering in Kellin's eyes. Crying just made him feel weaker, like he would never be enough and Vic could do so much better.
"Kells, please talk to me." Vic sighed, head in his hands. The position the older man was sat in hurt Kellin's heart. He looked so defeated. Kellin felt so selfish, Vic spent all his time doing nothing but caring for the younger man and he just threw it back in his face.
Kellin stood in front of Vic and ran a hand through the older man's hair. He lifted the tan man's chin with his hands and let his eyes rake over his face. He brought their lips together, trying to ignore the guilt that was pooling in his stomach. Vic intertwined their fingers before pulling away. He let his eyes trail up to Kellin's ridden-up sleeves.
"What's this, Love?" His voice was shaky, cracking at the end of the sentence. Kellin let his tears fall, resting his forehead on top of Vic's head. The hispanic man looked down at the scars littering Kellin's forearm, letting tears dribble down his cheeks.
"I-I'm so sorry." Vic hushed him, holding his love tight in his arms.
"You have nothing to be sorry for. You've done nothing wrong. Everyone has off days and I'm always gonna be here for you if you need me. I adore you, Baby." Kellin let out another quiet sob, crawling into his lap and holding tight onto Vic's torso.
Vic rocked the small man in his arms, letting him cry. He knew Kellin had his demons, hell, he had his own and the scares to prove it. But the scars littering the man's forearm, as well as possibly other areas, showed his strength. It took real courage to live and Vic was so, so proud of his love for making it as far as he had.
"Let's get you to bed, Love."
