Chapter 5: Guilty As Charged

Cory's POV
3 years later
"AHHHH DAD! COME HERE QUICK!!!" Lulu, my daughter screamed. I ran into the bathroom disturbed by what I saw. It was my daughter Maria and Caden's son Donald, dead on the floor. I ran to their lifeless bodies trying to wake them up. Caden runs into the room and gasps.
"No! This can't be! My son!!" He cries. I feel around my pockets for my phone and I can't find it. I then realise that I shoved it in my underwear and begin to call the ambulance.
"Hello? Please come here immediately. It's my daughter and my wife's son, they're dead." I say shakily on the phone. A tear trickles down my cheek. I did not bother calling Hally straight away, I was too shaken up by what had happened. She left to get some groceries 20 minutes ago. I stare at Maria's face and notice that there was something in her mouth.
It was pizza. Pizza. Pizza was the cause of my daughter's death? I looked at Donald's mouth and notice that there's something in it as well. Pizza. Both of them must've choked on it coincidentally.

30 minutes later
I called Hally and she said she'd be here in 15. The doctor enters the hospital room. Caden immediately walks forward wanting to know what the cause of their death was.
"So? What are the results! Tell me what happened to my son!!" Caden cries.
"Ummm well, I'm sorry to say this but, Mr Copenhagen, Mr Thief, your children have been choked. The pizza was shoved down their throats. We ran some tests on how it could've happened and the marks on their necks show that they were strangled then the pizza was shoved down their throats." The doctor says, looking down at the floor. I was speechless. I didn't know what to say. I mean, what would you say if someone murdered your child? What would you say? I looked at Caden on my left and see that he's furious.
"I wanna know who did this to my little boy! And when I find out whoever did this, they're going to pay. I'll make sure of it, even if it's the last thing I do..." he warns. Hally enters the room and runs to me and Caden, pulling us into a tight embrace. She sobs on our shoulders and I close my eyes trying to accept the fact that my daughter is gone.

Caden's POV
10 days later
I watch as they slowly lower the mahogany coffin into the ground. A tear rolls down my cheek and more tears follow after it. I'm still denying the fact that my son is actually gone. The police has been working on this case for a week now, trying to figure out who murdered our kids. I pull Hally closer to me. Cory pulls her closer to him. I give him a slight death stare, but my tears cover it's deathlyness. "Not now. We shouldn't fight at our kids' funeral." I whisper, stiffening when I say the word 'funeral'. He nods and looks back at the ground.
Suddenly the sound of sirens fill the air. Three police cars pull up and a police officer steps out with a microphone thing (I forgot what they are called). I ran towards the police officer. "Um excuse me. What are you doing at our children's funeral?" I asked. I take glance at my wife and for some reason she looks quite anxious. The police officer looks towards her direction.
"Mr Thief, Mr Copenhagen, is that your wife, Hally?" He questions me and Cory.
"Uhhh yes, why?" We asked in unison.
"Because you Ms Hally are under arrest for the murder of your two children." The officer announced, pointing at my wife.
"How are you so sure it was her? It can't be!!" Cory said in disbelief.
"Because we had a little help from our head chief, Officer Sarah." He replied. My mother-in-law steps out of the car and puts on her aviator glasses. *Cue the badass music. She walks slowly and struts towards her daughter (like in the movies where they look cool and stuff).
"Hally Virginia Maloney, I can't belive you murdered my grandchildren. I didn't raise you to be a killer. I'm ashamed to call you my daughter! This is completely and utterly disgraceful" she spat in disgust. Her tone was harsh and intense. The other police officers then pulled Hally towards the police cars. I couldn't believe my wife murdered my son. Cory and I stand and watch as the woman we loved was shoved into the police car. We're not so sure who she is or who she has become anymore.... In fact, we're not even sure if we love her anymore...
