Cleo's POV
The night was young, but the harsh whip of the cold wind said other-wise. Autumn was having a régime change with Winter, and the early hints of the Lady of Ice took form as freezing gusts of wind and frozen dew drops on the blades of grass.
I watched from my spot on top of the nearby building, observing the surroundings, my eyes travelling over the neon coloured signs, the bright-lit rooms of the motels and the murky alleys, all the while making sure I wasn't being watched. But that was highly unlikely, thanks to my black leather kit and my knack at hiding, I blended in with the darkness. I absent-mindedly rubbed my HK G36 sniper with my leather clad thumb, running it over the gun's shiny barrel. My target was Victor Steele, a drug dealer and murderer. The SAC has him pinned down for 74 heroin deals, 38 kilos of illegal cocaine shipments and 29 murders of civilians. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. He was inside a club but he should come out in a few minutes, he had some business to see to.
I readied my gun. The bullets weren't your everyday 'shoot-that-deer' ammunition. They were laced with poison that attacks the nervous system and the heart, leaving the victim dead in a couple of minutes. The best part? The bullet dissolves into a weak tissue healing potion, which seals up the wound, leaving no evidence.
After an hour my patience was wearing thin, and when I thought that I'll have to go and personally bring his sorry ass outside, he finally came out. He looked around and while adjusting his coat he went to a nearby dark alley.
Perfect.
He was on the phone with someone, his voice raised in annoyance as he asked where his customer was. I chuckled. The SAC called him, using a facade of being an underground drug ring and he fell for it. Stupid human. Taking aim, I pulled the trigger, releasing a bullet that was eager to reach it's destination. He dropped his phone with a clatter, falling to the ground like a limp rag doll. In seconds, I was beside him. He looked up in fright, his muscles twitching uncontrollably as the venom travelled through his veins.
"The Dragon Que... Someone hel..." he choked out, his mouth gaped wide as the nerves in his jaws died off. "I wouldn't do that if I were you." I hissed harshly, stomping my foot down on his chest. He tried to struggle out of my death hold, with the key word being tried. His face was turning into the most interesting shades of blue and purple, as if an artist on crack decided to use his face as a canvas. Should I help him? Hmmm... Choices, choices, choices. Maybe - not. The familiar prickling sensation overtook my left arm, the blood red glow of the dragon visible even through the leather material. When he saw the glowing tattoo his eyes widened and he started mumbling incoherent nonsense. I caught the word 'mercy' and scoffed in his face. Mercy? For a cold-blooded murderer? That'll be when hell runs out of business. Foolish man, he should've thought I'll get him before he went around murdering people. The next second his eyes rolled into his head and he was dead.
Pleased with my work, I slinked out of the alley and strutted over to my sleek black Audi, which was parked nearby. Sliding into the driver's seat I pressed a button. A 'bing' sound came. 'Licence plate changed' a woman's voice said. I loved that trick. My licence plate was digital and even if you touch it you won't know the difference. The engine purred into life and I took off. "Call Headquarters." I commanded. The 'bing' sound came again and in a few seconds Layla picked up. "Mission 293 is accomplished. No traces left, no witnesses." I said. "Excellent work! I will notify you if anymore jobs are in need of your attention. Till then take care. And stay alive." Layla said and hung up.
Giving myself a small grin, I turned up the volume of my playlist as I drove home.
