"Lucie, where are you? " Unsure of what to do, I stay hidden under my bed, behind the boxes with my barbies in them, with only a small slither of a gap so I can see my bedroom door open as my big sister, Mae, calls to me. I think she's still mad at me for flushing her favourite lipstick down the toilet - she deserved it- she called me a mean name. Mummy says Mae shouldn't be using language like that- "It's extremely un-lady-like."
" Luce seriously - I'm not mad anymore, where are you? " Her voice isn't normal, it's squeaky high- it gets like that when she is scared. That's why she can't watch scary movies Daddy says, she'd turn into a mouse.
I don't do anything, frozen, why is Mae scared? She slams my door shut, yelling to Mummy and Daddy something I can't hear through the thick wood of the door.
I don't know how long I stay there - hidden under my bed in the dust, with my barbies, in my pink tutu and fairy wand gripped in my hand. But when I come out nothing is the same again.
