I feel like crap, utter crap.
As I look into the mirror in the plane I see my sleep deprived face- sickly pale, raccoon eyes (How attractive right?) No make-up- oh no, that was confiscated before I left the only family I have to go to a completely different flipping country. Alone. So " "I wouldn't hide behind it" it's bull.I look ridiculous.
My hair's in a messy braid down my back, my clothes are in need of an iron after travelling for so long with no real break- a black t-shirt with "Normal people scare me" written across my chest area in wgite, black jeans that I've just changed into knowing it'll be much colder in England than here in America and now my scruffy black trainers; I am physically and mentally exhausted, and I'm not even there yet. My Guardians have never looked so happy since I came into their lives- I need to remember why I'm doing this.
Sighing heavily, I finish drying my hands and go back to my window seat and plug my earphones in and fall asleep to my music. My parents are in their pyjamas- matching plaid bottoms, Daddy in the set's top while Mummy's in Daddy's favourite white t-shirt that says "My wife steals this top" he made it for her for Valentine's day about a year ago. It's a Sunday morning, which means a full out breakfast. Mae and I sneak down the stairs very quietly so we can watch Mummy and Daddy make breakfast - it's better than the actual breakfast not that we'd tell them that. They have their music on on the stereo, not too loud, but loud enough it subtly fills the house with the essence of life. Of family.
They are terribly messy I remember Mae saying once- they throw the flour at each other when the others not looking, and being very silly.
Daddy grabs Mummy around the waist from the back and swings her around as she squeals, "Nooo! Put me down!" He turns her around and holds her up so she's nose to nose to him - "I love you Anne." My Daddy says and then kisses Mummy sweetly- just because he wants to: not because of passion, not because he has to, but because he can,and he wants too.
"I mean, you're alright." Mummy replies. And Daddy sets her down on her feet only to tickle her mercilessly. "I love you too! Stop it, you ninny!"
By the end they're both laughing gazing into each other's eyes, and they start to slow dance to the music on the radio, or maybe to their own music in their head, whatever it was - I remember wanting it for when I was older.
The breakfast was nearly always burned on something. But it was worth it to see my mum and dad being happy together.
