"Adrian..." Ava whispers from behind me as we both finish packing our bags, ready to go to the Other Realm.
"Ava?" I whisper back, not looking behind, focussing on our task.
"How long do we have to stay there this time?" I hear how her voice almost breaks and realise that though I am used to bring ferried around - Ava still had trouble with the portals and isn't used to this.
As much as I love my cousin, as annoying as she is, I will never know how much I can truly trust her. We are related, but her family would kill me in the blink of an eye if that's what it took to prove themselves. I almost wish they would. I wouldn't have the demands, the fears, the...female attention much less to be desired. I hate this mission - but at least it gets me away from my Father. Ava has me and that's it.
"As long as it takes." My voice as cold as razor cut ice as I try to distance myself from the emotions that scream at me to look after her.
That will get me killed here, once we get to Raelia I can protect her and get this mission done quickly.
