Your feet splashed into the waters down at the bottom of the ladder. Claire stood there waiting, staring at a rusted steel bar door. "I think this'll take us somewhere," she looked at you and Leon.

"Worth a shot," you pushed the door open slowly, cringing at the creaking it created. "I hate these damn sounds, I'm really looking forward to leaving this damn place." You muttered.

This time, you took the lead down the hallway, Claire and Leon guarding your back. The area sounded empty, it would be unlikely any zombie would reach this far, yet their was no room in your mind for doubts at the moment.

Never underestimate your enemies. Wesker's words rang in the back of your mind.
If he was here right now, he would be disappointed in you. You had shown fear to the enemy, showing you as a weak target and having them believe you'd be an easy kill.
You showed friendship to strangers who would point a gun behind your head at any moment they wished without hesitation.
You weren't certain if Wesker would say anything about your romantic interest in Leon, if he did, you'd never hear the end of it.

"How do you think this outbreak started?" You spoke, breaking the silence, trying to change the subject in your mind.

"It could be some sort of virus, the man back there mentioned something about G." Claire seemed a little fixated on the subject, it sounded like she was thinking on it really hard as well.
"That can't be it," Leon shook his head with doubt, "Whatever infected the people in this city turned them into zombies, Chief Irons turned into...some sort of demon out of hell."

You shivered at the thought, remembering the creature that came out of the man. It was like a parasite, hatching from its cocoon. "Virus or not, it's killing people nonetheless, but...who could've done this? To so many innocent people? What if it was airborne or-"

"Hey (Y/N), let's not get too into that right now, we still need to find Sherry." Leon appeared by your side, placing a hand on your shoulder to stop you in your steps. You looked at him, giving him a gentle smile. "You're right, I'm getting ahead of myself."

Claire stopped walking, staring at the two of you and noticing the interactions between you and Leon. "So..," she began, "You two...?"

Her question made you and Leon turn your heads to her. "What?" The word came out in unison.

She started to smile, seeing the confused looks on your faces. "Nevermind. Let's just keep going." She walked ahead, a smile growing on her face. The three of you froze when the ground shook, sending a large splash of water to your direction, wetting your clothes again. You looked up, and to your horror, the Leather clad grey beast was standing right in front of your path, his face looking more deadly than ever.
The countless bullet holes you remembered firing at his head were nowhere to be found, making you quickly wonder if he could regenerate. "Run! Run!!" You turned around fast, listening to Leon's orders as you ran the direction you came from.

You were the last to go through the rusted door, and in your distress your hand managed to grab the door and slam it shut behind you.

"Where the fuck did that thing come from?!?" You turned back, watching it approach the door. "Did it follow us here?!" You cried.

"Oh my god!" Claire cried out, seeing the beast lift his leg and kicking the door open, making it break off its hinges and land in the water.

"There's no backing down now. We might as well fight him!" Leon began to fire at his head with the shotgun, while Claire started to get trigger happy with her machine gun. You had no choice but to fire your handgun, disappointed that you didn't have anything stronger.

It didn't seem to matter however, the beast didn't take the bullets lightly, wincing at almost every single shot. Soon, he finally fell to his knees, leaning down to the ground in heavy, painful pants.
