The gunfire continued on for another minute or so, bringing on heavy fire to all the undead in the area. You slowly looked over, unable to see the sight due to Leon's body. "You two okay?" He asked. You turned your gaze to Sherry, your arms still holding on tight to her. Her eyes were shut, her hands grabbing onto your clothes tightly.
"Yeah, I think we're okay. Leon?" You looked at him again. "Are they here to rescue us?"
He turned his head to look over at the streets. He watched the bullets pierce each corpse, reducing their whole form to mutilated limbs and bloody meat pools. "They caught sight of you, right?"You nodded.
"Then they know we're here, hopefully they won't see us as enemies." He turned back and looked at you, his hold on your upper arms squeezed firmly. "We're going to get out of here, I can promise you that."
"The threat has been terminated."
A loud speaker came from the helicopter. Leon looked over again to see one of the helicopter doors open with a man standing on the edge, holding a white blowhorn.
"Step out from the alleyway immediately with your hands in the air."
Leon slowly stood, his hold on your arms gently pulling you up with him. You got Sherry to stand, holding her shoulders while she hugged your waist. "Wait, Leon!" You grabbed his hand. He turned and looked at you. "What if these people-"
"They won't." He cut you off. "Trust me. I'll go first."
"Be careful." Your hand slowly left his, returning to Sherry's shoulder to hold her. Leon slowly stepped out from cover, holding his hands out for the people to see. The light immediately shined on him, forcing him to use his hands to shield the light.
"Where's the woman and child?"
Leon looked over towards you, motioning with his head to step out. You looked down at Sherry, your hands slowly going to hers, pulling them gently away. "No!" She struggled to hold onto you, tears falling from her face.
"Sherry please, listen to me." You kneeled down, cupping her face with your hands, looking into her eyes. "You'll be right next to me, alright? Just keep your hands in the air, you'll be fine, I promise." She slowly nodded, watching you as you stood up. "Just follow me."
Slowly, you stepped out from cover, your hands immediately blocking the light from your eyes. You got to Leon's side, Sherry next to you holding up her hands. Nothing was said, only the sounds of the helicopter's blades chopping through the air was heard. The winds from the chopper sent your hair blowing, your blue button up pressed onto your skin.
"We'll clear a path out of the city. Follow along and we'll get you the hell out of here."
The man disappeared and the doors shut. The helicopter turned and started to head the direction you came from, the other choppers heading out towards different directions of the city.
"See," Leon lowered his hands, looking over towards you and Sherry, "What'd I tell you?"
You broke into a small grin, lowering your hands to your sides. "Yeah yeah, I heard you the first time.""We're getting out of here?" Sherry asked. You took her hand with a smile. "We're getting out of here."
"Let's go." Leon walked ahead, you and Sherry following right behind him. The helicopter held its end of the bargain, shooting roaming zombies that were in the street path. Sherry held onto your hand, staying close to avoid the bloody mess you had to walk through.
At the end of town, the helicopter landed alongside two others with medics standing in front of the doors. People dressed in black suits waited also, along with soldiers dressed in military uniforms, rifles in hand. Your steps slightly faltered, examining all these people that kept their eyes on you.
