CANON IN A POSSIBLE FUTURE.
Peril didn't seem quite ready for a committed relationship yet. She had spent the majority of her life depending on one dragon, one being, in the belief that she would die or something equally drastic if she weren't with them (when Scarlet was "providing" her those black rocks, remember?).
And then, while it might have been under drastically different circumstances, it happened all over again. Peril solely lived, even depended, off this one dragon's existence — and while I agree that Clay is just a big ole cinnamon roll that nobody can hate, and I agree that it was neither his or Peril's fault, it was still really unhealthy and a repetition of past events.
... Which is why I was so happy for Escaping Peril! Peril got friends — which is precisely what this lil fire bean needed. And now she has them, and at least for the meantime, she's pushed aside her crush a little bit — not exactly an enormous amount, but it's no longer such a sole dependence on this one guy, and that's great for both her mental health and Clay's. She's not moved on, but she's no longer quite obsessive — more like an intense crush on this guy. And that's fine and not unhealthy.
So, after Escaping Peril? Yeah! I'd love to see them together because now it's no longer so obsessive and a, "if Clay doesn't accept me, then my life is ruined!" kind of thing. Like... her life wouldn't be destroyed if he rejected her, and while it's now a healthy crush instead of such an obsession, both of them can stop and consider what they want out of their relationship, and it's a good, healthy chance for Clay to understand his own feelings without any pressure or awkwardness or worry — whether he has feelings for Peril, or he has them for someone else or no romantic feelings for anyone.
At this point, give it a year or something, and if they decide they like each other, then good for them! It's a perfectly healthy relationship.
