Even

It had been two weeks since I left Sonja and everything felt like it was falling into place. I bought a small one bedroom apartment for myself. It was closer to my work and It had been making things a lot easier for me.

My days kept on getting longer and longer. It had gotten to the point where I could barely wake up in the mornings. Today was Friday and I decided that I needed to go out tonight and do something fun for once.

I finally roll myself out of bed and scramble to get changed. It was so early in the morning that it was still pitch black outside. There were seven minutes left until my shift started and It would take me ten minutes to get there.

As soon as I arrive, I run in and grab my apron and visor, hoping no one would make a big deal about me being late.

"Even, for the last time, stop being late. If you want to keep your job, I suggest being here on time."

It was so early in the morning that I could barely hear anything he said.
I rub my eyes and wait for the first customer to arrive.

The little bell on the door rang as a lady walked inside. She was a small and petite lady with short, flaming red hair. She looked as if she just barely woke up and could stab anyone who even tried to talk to her.

"Good morning, Ma'am, what could I get you?" I give her a half-fake smile since it was way too early in the morning to actually be nice.

"I'll have a Tall, Non-Fat Latte With a Caramel Drizzle" she bursts out.

I write everything down before I forget. It was still early in the morning, but after working here for over a year I had practically mastered everything.

"Alright, here you go ma'am."

She walks up to the counter to get her coffee and walks back out. Moments later she stomps back in.

"UM WHAT IS THIS!!" she shouts.
As she opens the lid, I panic and think of the absolute worst that could happen.

"You see this, you put the caramel drizzle on the very bottom of the drink!" She pauses before ranting on again. "You were supposed to mix it into the drink, that's what I told you to do."

Oh boy, I hadn't had a customer like this in months. And today out of all days, seemed the worst to test me. I let out a big sigh before talking to her.

"Ma'am, I wrote down exactly what you said, there's a straw or spoon over there if you want to mix it in"

"No, no this is unacceptable!" she squeals.

I was so close to losing my shit, but I didn't want to lose this job so I just let her rambling go on.

As this lady continued on throwing a fit, my manager came out and was trying to figure out what was going on. The lady kept getting overly dramatic about every single thing and it took a good five minutes just so she could explain what she thought happened and for me to explain what actually happened.

Finally, my manager tells her exactly what I told her and the lady just went nuts. It took three employees just to tell her that she needed to leave and not come back. This woman was probably the worst customer that I had ever witnessed.

Before she left, she threatened to throw coffee all over me. I had to keep reminding myself to chill and not lash back at her. In a way, I felt proud that I didn't let my angry side out today.

Relief surrounded me once the lady left, and my manager told me that nothing was my fault. I took a deep breath in before other customers started to walk in. At least the worst part of my day was over.
