4: Wide and Fake Smile

Early mornings at school are death for me. Getting a text notification from Sonja at 8am sure didn't make it any better. I decide to ignore it until lunch rolls around.

I'm walking down the hall towards my last class before someone bumps into me.

"Hey Isa-" she proceeds before I cut her off

"I don't need your apology Eva, It's fine." I sigh before trying to escape her talking to me.

"It was about a party Sonja wanted to invite you to, but okay, nevermind"

"Wait, huh?" I question back to her.

"Yeah, you weren't answering her texts so she wanted me to tell you about it."

"First of all, why do you have Sonja's number in your phone?" I ask her.

"I don't. That one tall blonde guy we saw at your work a few weeks ago came up to me and told me about it."

She clears her throat before continuing on.

"He said that Sonja was inviting you and you can bring along another friend. And then he told me that I was invited too and I could bring a friend also."

"And get this, he told me that he really looked forward to seeing me there."

"AND THEN HE WINKED AT ME"

I refrain myself from rolling my eyes.

"Eva, that is Sonja's boyfriend, don't even think about making a move."

She gives me a confused look.

"He told me that he was single, what are you talking about Isak?"

"Sonja talks about him almost everyday, she says they're still dating-"

The bell cuts off the rest of my sentence before I can finish.

"Hmm, we'll talk about the party later."

She waves before walking past me.

Finally, it was the end of the day and I could get on the bus to go home. I say goodbye to Jonas and the rest of the group before I step onto the bus. I looked around and couldn't find Eva anywhere.

That was until I spotted her in the back. A few people were blocking her view but I could tell it was her by the white beanie she was wearing.

"Oh hey Isak!" Eva exclaims. I come closer to her until I notice the infamous Even sitting right next to her. I refrain from my eye rolling once again and I actually wanted to punch him this time.

I give a wide and fake smile before turning back around. I notice the only empty pole in the middle of the bus and make my way through everybody to reach it. I grab into my pockets and untangle my earbuds before putting them in. I blast some NWA and lose myself in the music.

I actually was starting to sorta like Even. I didn't know what it was I liked about him, but it was gone now. First, lying to Sonja and now trying to get with Eva behind her back. I wanted nothing more than to call him out right now.

He knew that I was good friends with Eva and now he's all over her. I sit next to Eva everyday on the bus and him sitting there definitely did not make things better.

As the bus finally makes it to our stop, I quickly move to the front of the bus and am the first one off. I blast my music even louder so that It drowned out any voices. I speed walk around the corner and take the shortcut towards my house.

Out of nowhere, Eva came up behind me and ripped my earbuds out, nearly knocking my phone to the ground.

"What was that for!" I nearly shout.

"Are you actually kidding me? We were going to talk about the party with you until you randomly stormed off? What's with you, stop being so stubborn and jealous."

"Me? Jealous? Are you serious? I don't want to be around Sonja's shitty cheating boyfriend. That's what you don't get Eva. He is still with Sonja, and all he wants is to get inside your pants."

"Eva, I don't want you to get hurt. If Sonja finds out about this, she's going to be heartbroken. I don't want you to get involved in this."

To my surprise, she doesn't slap me or run away.

She stops and looks into my eyes.

"If that's what it is, then I won't let myself be interested him. I didn't know that you disliked him that much."

I nod my head a bit.

"We barely talked, only about the party. It's tomorrow and is going to be at Sonja's. I honestly think it would be easier if only me and you came." She says as if she's relieved that it's just the two of us.

"I think it'd be easier so we could just go around and hook up with whoever we want without worrying about two extra friends."

"I agree too" I nod my head.

We both let out a small laugh and wrap our arms around each other's shoulders.

I slowly look back behind me and see Even standing a long distance away, he was looking at Eva and I. He probably was looking at us the whole time which made things even more weird.

Our eyes meet for a few seconds until he was the one to finally turn his head away. If he even thought about messing with her, he'd have to get through me first. He knew that.
