Chapter 12: Partner Work?

We finished the splits and Ms. Abby told us to do a set of four turns. I nailed the turns and did one lifting my leg all the way up. Ms. Abby raised both eyebrows and clapped. She said the next portion of the audition was improvising. I smiled while Mackenzie frowned a little. "Girls, I will play different pieces of music. Bring your dance bags in here because if you want to do a tap dance or jazz dance to one of the songs you can change your shoes quickly and start improvising. We ran and got our dance bags and placed them infront of the mirror. Ms. Abby played the music and it was a soft lyrical piece so Kenzie and I kept our shoes on. I did four turns into a split, got up gracefully and piqued off one foot and did aside ariel into front splits. throughout the dance I nailed my turns perfectly. Then she turned on a song that sounded like a 90's radio song, it was a tap song. I quickly ran up for my tap shoes while Kenz kept dancing in her dancing flats. I did a really good job and Abby smiled  at how fast I threw my shoes on. I did a side ariel in my tap shoes and my taps were as clean as a whistle. Then Ms. Abby played an energetic song and both of us got our jazz shoes. We did a lot of switch splits. I jumped up and did the perfect leap. I turned and did an ariel walk over. Then Ms. Abby stopped the music and told us we got in. Kenzie and I hugged each other and then Ms. Abby. "Ok girls let me get Chloe and Paige and we will discuss your schedual. As they  walked in Chloe gave me a hug and Kenz held Paige's hand. Paige was really pretty and skinny. "Ok Mackenzie you will go to your hand chosen privates.  What do you want to take we have jazz, acro, lyrical, ballet, hip-hop, and tap. You choose two and you can always change them later. " Ms. Abby told Mackenzie.  "Um... I choose jazz and acro." Kenzie said. Ok you go to Acro first to warm you up for jazz, then we have a competition on Saturday so you will go to the group rehearsal. After that girls have a lunch break in the den, and I'm giving you an acro-jazz solo. After lunch go to your solo rehearsal. After that your going to a technique lesson and your done." Mackenzie smiled and told Ms Abby thank you, then Paige walked Kenz out. "Ok Maddie first you will do some partner work with the boys. At this age you will do a lot of partner work group dances, then you will do your hand picked privates.  What will they be?" Ms. Abby said eagerly. "I would like to do tap and lyrical." I stated firmly. Ok good, you will have lyrical first then tap. After that lunch break, then there is a competition for you guys on Saturday as well so you will go to the group rehearsal after lunch. I'm giving you a lyrical solo against Chloe then a duet with Chloe. Go to solo rehearsal first then duet. Then your done. you have a little more planned than Mackenzie so I will tell your mom that your going to stay until 11:30." I smiled I loved staying late at dance. "Chloe you too." We both nodded, thanked her and left the room. "We have ten minutes before partner class. What do you want to do?" she asked. "Finish my homework." she agreed an we went up to where all the moms were. I introduced myself to all of them,  and we sat on the floor behind the cushion they sat on. I got my Rilakkuma tin pencil case, and grabbed out my math homework. I don't understand how I hate math, but excel in it. Chloe and I finished our homework in five minutes and started on our english reading. Half way done my watch goes off and Chloe and I ran down for partner work. When I open the door the first thing I see is Nick. He didn't see me because he was doing an Arabesque in the corner. "Right on time girls. I'm partnering up people for this week's competition." Giana said. I hope I end up with Nick, but knowing my luck it won't happen.  "Ok Brooke you and Brandon will be together. " Then a girl next to Nick coughed out "Like always" then cleared her throught. "That's Ryleigh, she is that girls older sister, Kendall. Ryleigh is jealous of Brooke, she likes Brandon but everyone knows Brooke and Brandon are the golden couple." Chloe whispered. I nodded, "Well Ryleigh they're dating and have physical attraction we'reooking for. The crowd will be drawn to them. Ok Nia you won't be in the group, Abby's orders sorry kiddo. Kendall your with Kevin, Paige you're with Mikey, and Chloe you're with Nick." My smile faded while Chloe's lit up. The thought of my new best friend and crush dancing together, doing lifts together. Him holding her waist. Chloe stroking his face. "Maddie you will also be with Nick." My face lit up In confusment. Then I see Nick wave at me because he just noticed I entered the room.  I waved back and smiled "The dtory behind this dance is that everyone will be dancing together like they love each other. Chloe you will be dancing with Nick the  first part, but your trying to draw Nick to you and make him love you. Nick thinks he falls for you, but then realizes that his true love is Maddie." Now Chloe's smile faded while mine lit up. "Ok first Abby wants you to work on lifts with your partner so do any kind you want." Nick walks over to ne and Chloe. "Who do I start with." He asked us."I think you should do a few with Chloe first, since she goes before me." He nodded and they took a couple of steps to a more spacious area. They talked for a second then she lifted her right leg up on his shoulder, then he grabbed her upper ankle and picked her by her left rib and she does a spiral in the air. He turns her around a couple of times then puts her down. Gianna claps "Good job Nick, but you and Chloe only have a quick lifting part. I want to see the connection you have with Maddie since she's new." He nodds and I come over. He takes my hand and Gianna tells us to work on a lift where I do the splits. Gianna explained the procedure and here's how it went. I ran gracefully to him while he is turned back.  After I ran I jumped on his back like a piggy back ride, then I swing my legs over into a baby cradle. He spins me around a couple of times, then I put my hands on his shoulders hoist, myself up while he boosts me up by picking me up by the waist into the splits over his head. Now lets do it for real. I ran to him and jumped on his back, I swing my legs over and he catches me into the baby cradle I hoist myself up while he grabs my waist I come up to the splits perfectly and he turns around so I keep rotating,  which was a nice touch on his part. When he let me down we high fived each other. Chloe clapped for us. Then I looked at  Gianna who had a disappointed expression.  "Look you did it great,  but throughout the whole lift there was no emotion. Maddie you have to look like you trust him, you looked like you were trying to support yourself. Nick you looked worried throughout the whole thing. I'm going to talk to Abby for a sec." she said. That made me a little angry, what if she takes my part away.
