~Jeremy's POV~
A new wave of emotion washed over me as I hopped up to walk next to Michael. There was a pep in my step that wasn't there before. A fluttered feeling was embedded in my heart that made me want to explode. I felt like I could reach up and kiss my favorite person right there, just like I just imagined. For the first time in what seemed like forever, I felt taller, broader, and stronger. Was it confidence? Maybe it was.
"Hey Jer!" Michael greeted me as I bounced up to his side. "Feeling better?"
"Much," I replied, grinning up at him. He smiled back, his eyes twinkling with admiration. I saw Christine shoot me a thumbs up from the corner of my eye, and I nodded curtly in acknowledgment.
"Do you wanna ride with me on the Music Express?" I asked as the rest of the group figured out which way to go.
"As long as you don't puke on me," he joked, chuckling lightly. I laughed, nudging his shoulder.
"I'll try not to," I beamed. We strolled along with the rest of the group, headed for the next ride.
The Music Express was (thankfully) on the ground, unlike most of the other rides. The track was shaped in a circle, with multiple carts scattered along it. The carts each contained a single wide seat with a pull-down bar to hold the rider(s) in. The ride would start to move across the tracks in a circle, gradually picking up speed. It seemed better than the Volcano, so I wasn't as freaked out.
"I've never actually been on this ride," Michael commented, studying the different designs on the carts.
"Well, I've never been on it either, so I guess it's a two-player game," I admitted, moving forward in the line. He smirked at me as we entered the fenced-in area and searched for an empty cart. I spotted one over to the right and grabbed Michael's hand, tugging him over to the cart. I felt a blush spread over my cheeks as I gripped his hand, and I was pretty sure he did too. It became impossible to hide; both of our faces were redder than a cherry.
Michael hopped into the cart and slid down to the end. I clambered into the cart after him and pulled the bar down, latching us inside.
"Whoops," he muttered suddenly, pointing to a sign by the entrance. It read, "Smaller Riders Enter First." I was both shorter and thinner that Michael, which caused a bit of a problem.
"I'm sure it'll be okay," I assured him, not knowing what could possibly go wrong.
"You've got a lot more confidence in riding stuff now. Something happen with Christine?" He asked, nudging me suggestively. I chuckled nervously. If only he knew, I thought.
Suddenly, the ride started up. A tune I somewhat recognized started blaring from a set of speakers in the middle of the ride, and the carts began pulling along the track slowly.
This doesn't seem too bad, I thought, glancing around at the other carts. The speed started to get faster, and I felt some sort of invisible force pushing me to the outermost end of the cart. Before I could pull myself back, the ride sped up even more, causing Michael's corpse to come flying into my side. I let out a squeak of surprise and pain as he attempted (and failed) to pull himself back to the other side, both of us apologizing like mad. The ride jolted with speed again, and I flew back into the side of the cart. Michael lost his grip and came crashing into me once more, this time harder than the last.
"This---stupid--ride!" He stuttered, straining to yank himself back to a comfortable position on the other side of the bench. Realizing there was no way to avoid being thrown into each other, I searched for a better way to ride. Finally, I figured out a way to absorb most of the impact and ride in a better position. I shifted and turned my back on the side of the cart, facing Michael. I reached out and wrapped my arms around his shoulders, letting him come slamming into my chest. He flinched at the contact and managed to turn to face me.
