Love is Love is Love

Have some fluff because Writer's Block is a jerk

~Michael's POV~

I stared down blankly at the screen in my hand, trying to interpret the response I'd just received. I tried to go back and view the conversation, but every message had disappeared.

A rush of panic shivered its way up my spine, forming fields of goosebumps all along my flesh. My back stiffened as I tilted my head around in search for the unknown stalker, and I couldn't help but wonder if they were standing behind me right now. I protectively wrapped my arms around Jeremy, hiding my face in his hair and breathing deeply. The boy stirred at the sudden contact and looked up at me sleepily.

"Hey, I wasn't done sleeping," he murmured drowsily, shifting in my lap. I laughed quietly and placed a single kiss on his forehead.

"You know I love you, right?" I asked, brushing messy tufts of hair out of his face. He smiled and nodded slowly, kissing my lips softly and causing a flutter in my chest.

"Of course I do. And I love you too."

       "Good."

He squirmed out of my grasp and rolled onto the bench next to me, and I couldn't help but sigh at the loss of contact. Jeremy giggled and side hugged me, trying to pull my into his lap.

"Oh, so that's what you wanted," I chuckled amusedly, complying and settling in his lap.

"I wanna be the big spoon sometimes," he informed me simply, squeezing me tight to his chest. I buried my head in his shoulder and sighed, a blissful peace swelling in my heart. Everything would be alright. Nothing was going to happen. I was sure of it. Even so, I decided to try and explain what had happened.

"Hey, Jeremy? You believe most things I say, right?" I asked, hoping I wouldn't sound too suspicious. He looked down at me, his perfect lips melting into a puzzled frown.

"Well, yeah, why?" He replied, cocking his head to the side.

"It's just--"

I was cut off by a random shriek from across the sidewalk. We both looked up to see a toddler crying with an empty ice cream cone in their hand. A splattered ball of the sweet treat lay underneath their feet, looking sad and melted.

"Aww, poor kid. Anyways, you were saying?" Jeremy continued, turning back to meet my eyes. I gulped, my confidence and self-awareness suddenly draining from every corner of my body.

"I just, uh, just wanted to be sure you trusted me. I had this random surge of uncertainty, you know?" I covered up, trying to sound genuine.

"I know what you mean. Well, I trust you with my life," he beamed, kissing me gently and cuddling me in his arms. I flashed a fake smile despite the urge to fall apart. I couldn't help but wonder if the child was a purposeful distraction, as if that unknown number were watching and didn't want me to spill.

After a little while of snuggling on the bench, the rest of the group came waltzing up the sidewalk, buzzing about the previous ride. I tried to push the freaky scam encounter into the back of my mind, focusing on the present situation.

"How was the ride?" Jeremy chirped as they approached.

"Wasn't half bad," Jake responded casually, "although it was a little too calm for my own liking."
