My Day Was Great, Mom
TW: Suicide Mentions
~Michael's POV~
"Do you think he's okay?" I fretted, checking my phone for the seventh time in two minutes.
"Calm down, Michael. He just left early, it's not a big deal," Melanie soothed angelically. I sighed, shutting my phone off frustratedly and shoving it in my pocket.
"You said he'd answer one of my calls and he's yet to even read my texts. It's been almost the entire day, Mel!" I exclaimed worriedly, tugging at my hoodie strings. She sighed and took my hand.
"Michael, it's okay. He's not going to ignore you forever. Just be patient; he'll contact you at some point."
I waved goodbye to her and trudged over to the buses. I had a long ride ahead of me. As I boarded the bus, people stared at me and looked away when I noticed. It was as if they thought I couldn't see their judgmental expressions or feel their piercing stares drilling into the back of my head. I wanted to break down again, to curl up in a ball and never stop crying. My day had been horrible already, it didn't make it any better that I had to ride this stupid bus home.
I slid into the very back seat and hugged my knees tight to my chest, leaning against the side of the bus and gazing out the window.
"They stared at me, too," I looked over and was met with Christine in the opposite seat, who looked more saddened than I'd ever see her look. Her once bright and eccentric eyes were dark and downcast, and her mouth curved slightly in a short frown. Her entire aura just seemed off, as if she'd been struck down by a tyrant and left for dead. She was even crying a little bit. It was scary, to say the least. Christine was the one person who you would never see upset.
"They all just stopped talking to me. I didn't know what was going on until I checked Jenna's Instagram," she mumbled, sniffling and wiping her eyes.
I sighed, "I'm really sorry, Christine. You shouldn't have been dragged into this. It's all my fault."
"We both should have been more careful, to be honest. How would anyone have been able to catch that one moment on camera?" She wondered aloud, waving her hand around for emphasis. I sighed shakily, banging my head against the seat in front of me repeatedly.
"There are people out there who will do some crazy things if they have information. God, I should have done something about that," I muttered, mentally slapping myself.
"Done something about what?"
I pulled out my phone and pulled up the conversation with the unknown number from earlier that day and showed her the screen. "Essentially, this person threatened me with a photoshopped picture of us and asked for money. After I refused, this conversation took place, and since I denied again, Jeremy hates the both of us."
Her face slowly fell into a scowl as she read the messages, and eventually she just reached up and switched it off. I nodded in agreement to her foul expression and placed my phone back in my pocket.
"And they threatened you?" She confirmed.
"Asked for $10,000, if I remember correctly. Also, I'm pretty sure they were stalking me as well," I let out a strange laugh, almost amused at my own misfortune. Would that be Schadenfreude?
"Jesus!" she exclaimed. "That seems pretty crazy for a bit of stupid teenage drama."
"Well, some teens will do stupid things to keep their social life intact."
