Day Four
~Michael's POV~
Morning seemed to come faster than I would've liked, and before I knew it, I was being violently thrown around on the bus again. Jeremy and I were using each other as stability, which only made the situation more difficult, as we would move as one mass every time the vehicle zoomed over a speed bump.
"Couldn't they make this bus ride a bit less chaotic?" I grumbled, barely avoiding being thrown off the tiny seat. Jeremy nodded curtly, almost flying over the top of the seat in front of us as the bus came to a flying halt. Luckily, I caught him and cradled him in my lap, flipping off the driver in the front of the bus.
"Cool it, maniac!" Jeremy shouted to the driver over the din of the other students. I gripped the torn edge of the seat with one hand, attempting to stabilize myself. It didn't do much good, however, as the entire chunk of fabric I was holding on to ripped off instantly after we jolted into movement once again. Looking down at the fabric in my hand, Jeremy and I both sighed.
"We need better buses," I murmured, and Jeremy nodded in agreement. I leaned my head against his shoulder and used him as an anchor to prevent being tossed out the window. He gripped the straps of his backpack tightly, as if it were going to go flying in an instant. He looked into my eyes, and despite the chaos around us, I felt at peace. I leaned down and kissed him softly, savoring the sweet taste of his lips.
After what seemed like long enough to have a baby, the bus came to a screeching halt and we unloaded. We joined our group and began to discuss what to ride next. I was about to butt in when I felt my phone buzz, the rhythm vibrating to signal an unknown number. I gulped and pulled out the device, opening the message.
+1-836-867-5309: Changed your mind yet?
Player One: so you have a number now?
. . .
+1-836-867-5309: who says this is the same device?
My stomach twisted as realization struck. If this unknown person was switching phones, that meant they could be anywhere, just buying a new device each conversation!
. . .
Player One: for your information, I didn't change my mind. I still think this is a huge scam
+1-836-867-5309: Your loss, I guess. Your silly little lie about Melanie won't last very long.
. . .
Player One: stay away from my sister and Jeremy. they've done nothing to you
. . .
. . .
+1-836-867-5309: And you're so sure of that, why?
Player One: I would know if my sister or my boyfriend were being scammed. unlike you, people actually trust me with their problems
. . .
. . .
. . .
+1-836-867-5309: Suit yourself.
To my surprise, the stranger didn't block my number this time, and the conversation stayed in place. Taking a quick screenshot of the chat, I circled the phone number and kept it in my camera roll. I cleared my throat nervously and ran a hand through my hair, tangling it up in an anxious mess. I glanced over to see Jeremy eyeing me worriedly, his perfect mouth curved into a frown.
