~Michael's POV~ (finally)

I gripped Melanie's shoulder lovingly, ecstatic to finally see my sister again. Jeremy stood in front of us, baffled at the sight of my sister.

"Jeremy, don't you remember? This is my sister, Melanie," I explained, beaming at the two in the dim light. A look of realization washed over his face, Mel copying it as well.

"That makes sense!" He exclaimed, smiling. "I thought she looked familiar."

"I haven't seen you for so long, Mikey-poo," Mel cooed teasingly, poking my head. Jeremy shot me an amused look, mouthing "Mikey-poo? Really?" I rolled my eyes playfully, turning back to my sister.

"I really missed you, MelMel," I sighed, leaning my head on her shoulder. Melanie was only two years younger than me, but she was a heck of a lot smarter than me. She was also a whole lot more talented than me, attracting lots of attention. Mom and Dad sent her off to some special boarding school when she was 9, so I was left at home. It was lonely for a while, but Jeremy's frequent visits soon made up for it. Nevertheless, Mel and I were closer than two magnets; we trusted each other with our lives. The only thing that I ever kept from her was my crush on Jeremy.

I pulled Melanie into another bear hug, still shocked at the fact that she was here now.

"Why are you back in New Jersey?" I asked, looking down slightly at her. "I thought your fancy school was off in New York."

"Well, the school board figured we needed a break from all the work, so they brought the entire school here to this place. Who knew I'd run into you!" She mused, pinching my cheek. I chuckled, ruffling her hair and embracing her once again. Suddenly, I remembered that Jeremy was there too, and I looked back at him.

"I can't believe I didn't recognize you!" Mel trilled. "I mean, you were over at our house almost 24/7."

"Me neither!" Jeremy admitted. "You were always the one who opened the door."

We all burst into fits of giggles, remembering how excited Mel would get when someone knocked on the door. She would scream "I got it!" and scurry over to unlock it. Almost every time, however, it was Jeremy. But, in the event that the doorbell rang while Jeremy was over, she would never answer it. Jer and I would always tease her about it, especially when she would come dashing to the door in excitement and greet the pizza man.

"So, I guess you're still friends with this dweeb, huh?" She grinned, overcoming the laughter and turning somewhat serious. I flushed a rosy shade of crimson, as did Jeremy.

"Well, I think we're a little more than friends now.." I trailed off, meeting Jeremy's icy eyes. Mel cocked her head slightly, confused at what I meant. I took Jeremy's hand and rubbed the back of it gently, looking down in an attempt to hide my blushing face. She caught on quickly, her mouth forming a small "O".

"I never would have guessed.." she murmured, her gaze flickering between the two of us. Her expression was difficult to decipher: she looked somewhat sad, but it was mixed with a sort of surprise. She blinked a few times and smiled, shaking off whatever she felt before.

"I'm so happy for you, Mikey! And here I thought you'd never even get a text back," she joked, nudging my shoulder playfully. I chuckled as I looked up at Jeremy, both of us relatively relieved that Mel didn't happen to be homophobic. We stood there for a while, a calm spot amidst all the chaos that still ensued around us. It was like the eye of the hurricane. The rainbow that followed the storm.

Eventually, we remembered that we actually had other people to find, and we resumed the task of squeezing between other people and getting knocked around. I kept Jeremy's hand firmly grasped in mine the entire time, certain that I wouldn't lose him in the crowd again. Every so often, Melanie would stop calling out for her friends and glance at Jeremy and I, if only for a second. Every time, I would look back at her, attempting to perceive her expression. It was always the same, mixed gaze from before, filled with a thousand different emotions. I figured it was just some teenage girl hormone thing or something. Those of the female kind were impossible to understand, which was part of the reason why I settled for liking boys instead. They were much more direct with their feelings.

"Hey, Michael?" Jeremy addressed me at some point.

"What's up?" I responded, facing him briefly.

"What did you do with the flower I gave you? I mean, you don't have it now."

I kissed his cheek softly, laughing a little.

"Don't worry. Christine has it. I kinda shoved it into her arms when the lights went out," I assured, though sheepishly. He giggled, nodding and returning to the task at hand.

As we navigated our way through the dangerously manic frenzy of people, I started to recognize where we were. I spotted the Sky Rocket, which was quite close to the entrance to the park. Jeremy tugged forward, swerving in the direction of the exit. I was about to stop him when I glimpsed a crowd of students from our school, along with a few teachers.

"Uh, I think we have to go, MelMel," I acknowledged, turning back to her. She nodded, looking behind us at the students.

"I'll talk to you tomorrow. Now wish me luck, because I have no clue how I'm going to find my friends!" she chimed sarcastically, giving a wave and a smile. I waved back and set of towards our classmates, Jeremy by my side. We pushed our way towards our group, our fingers still interlocked.

As we arrived, the teachers scrambled to organize us with our group members, making sure they had counted each person. Apparently, a bunch of parents had arrived and taken their kids home, leaving only a couple of students. The only kids left from our group were Brooke and Jake, who were chatting quietly by a bench. We joined them and sat down, exhausted from the eventful day. Jeremy rested his head on my shoulder, yawning like a kitten. His voice squeaked softly, his eyes scrunching up in the most adorable manner. I chuckled quietly, looking down at him. He gazed back up, his baby blue eyes sparkling even in the dim phone light.

"You're comfy," he remarked, kicking his feet up along the bench and staring towards the sky. I sighed, wrapping my arm around his chest as we gazed at the dark blanket above. Only a few stars were visible.

After about a half hour of waiting, the teachers/chaperones herded the remaining students onto the bus, allowing us to sit wherever we wanted. I tugged Jeremy to the back seat, eager to sit down and get a move on. As we settled in the stiff seat, I faced my new boyfriend, sitting back on my knees.

"Why all the way back here? Why couldn't we sit in the front?" Jeremy inquired, meeting my eyes.

"Because then," I mused, "I couldn't do this."

I pulled him forward and pressed our lips together, wrapping my arm around his waist. He leaned forward into the kiss, leaning on my knee for support. I'd waited for almost twelve years to finally feel his sweet, enticing lips sealed with mine, and I was going to take advantage of every chance I could get.

I felt the bus start up, but my attention never wavered from my boy. I wasn't going to get distracted when I finally had the person of my dreams, especially by some stupid engine. I tugged Jeremy closer to me, feeling my glasses get knocked askew. He laughed a little, feeling their frames get pushed off of my face. I was forced to pull away and pick them back up so that they wouldn't get damaged. He giggled as I felt around on the seat for them, only to knock them onto the floor. In the end, Jeremy ended up snatching them off of the floor and positioning them on my face, giving my nose a satisfactory boop afterwards. I pressed my forehead against his, beaming wider than I ever had before.

"We'll always be together, right?" I whispered in his ear.

"Always and forever."

Yay fluff! I know I know, Melanie doesn't seem too important to the story yet. Just know, she's going to become really, REALLY important in a few chapters. I have lots of ideas for which directions this will take, so this will be super fun to write.
