. . . .

The doctors walked out of Zonnique's room frowning once again. They were beginning to lose hope on her. She remained in a coma, and her heart rate was slowing down some. Inside the room was Ariana laying next to her mother. She silently cried, with her fingers interwined with Zonnique's. She missed her mother dearly and she felt part of Zonnique's stress was her fault. Ariana had been acting bratty in the past but she's getting better now. She didn't like seeing her mom like this at all.

"Mommy please wake up, I won't be bad anymore I promise. I'll be the best daughter ever! Don't go to heaven yet please" Ariana cried harder but there was no use. Zonnique continued to lay there motionless and pale.

"I need you mommy..."

"Ari it's time to go home" August said walking inside the room. His face softened watching his daughter break down. He was hurting more than ever but he didn't want to make Ariana more emorional.

"Daddy can I just stay here? Just in case she wakes up" She asked with pleading eyes. "Please!"

He sighed deeply and rubbed his hand over his head dramatically. "We'll come back in the morning I promise. Nobody can stay the night Ari-"

"Fine.." she muttered before giving her mother another kiss on the cheek and touching her belly. Suddenly she felt a movement against her hand. The baby was kicking softly against her small hand. "Daddy! It kicked!"

"What?" he furrowed his eyebrows at her.

The baby hadn't moved since before Zonnique overdosed. The doctors believed that it was because, the baby was dying. Guess miracles do happen. August quickly went out in the hallway to see Chris pacing back and forth.

"Aye I got some good news-"

"Zonnique is awake?!" Chris asked with his widened.

He shook his head no. "Your baby is kicking"

"Like right now?"

"Yeah"

Chris raised his eyebrow before walking back into the room. He saw Ariana rubbing her belly with a small smile. It caused his heart to beat a bit faster. Now he had more hope that Zonnique would awake now.

"Feel it" Ari said.

"Uh.."

"You never felt a pregnant person's stomach?" August asked.

"No, it seems weird but hey.." he shrugged and sat on the edge of the bed.

As he placed his hand on Zonnique's round belly, he felt the baby's small feet thumping against his hand. For the first time in a week he smiled and it made him happy. Chris was allowed to stay as well as Ariana. They both were satisfied. He laid in the reclining chair while Ariana slept next to her mother. She snuggled up against her, feeling Zonnique's heart pump slowly. It was like she was barely breathing. Ariana said her prayers and closed her eyes. Chris on the other hand couldn't sleep whatsoever. He rested his head in his hands sighing. Everyday his cancer would get worst but he continued to ignore it. Little did he know that wasn't the right decision at all.

. . . .

The following morning, the nurse walked inside the room expecting to see Zonnique awake. Not even close. She scribbled down on her clipboard in disbelief shaking her head. She went over and grabbed the end of the stethoscope placing it on Zonnique's chest. The nurse listened to her heart beat then sighed. The same rate as before. Five beats per minute. That wasn't common at all. She wrote that down as well and checked her IV, before leaving out. They were beginning to lose hope as of now. Soon she would have to be placed on life support.

Ariana fluttered her eyes open and sat up, yawning. She looked at her mother then smiled moving Nique's hair behind her ears. She looked over expecting to see Chris but he was in the bathroom. Ariana hopped off the bed and began placing her uggs boots on. She flinched hearing loud coughing. She knitted her eyebrows and waited for Chris to walk out.

He stepped out the bathroom two minutes later looking redder than an apple. It was obvious he wasn't feeling well and he needed critical care as soon as possible. Chris took a deep breath before sitting back in the chair. Ariana ran to the sink and grabbed a plastic cup. She ran cold water inside and skipped back over.

"Here you go" she held up the cup.

"What's this for?"

"I know you're sick and I don't want you to get more sick. My mommy said drinking water helps sometimes" she replied.

Chris slightly smiled before taking the cup. He sipped some of it before placing it on the table. "Thanks squirt"

"You're welcome. Hey Chris can I ask you something?"

"Sure"

"Do you still think I'm a brat?" she frowned.

He shook his head no. "You're growing up into an intelligent and unique little girl"

"I love you Chrissy" Ariana replied before hugging his neck. He winced in pain some before hugging her back.
