Chapter 10

The soft crunch of frozen grass could be heard as the hunting patrol padded out of camp. The snow was melting and the prey was returning. Birdsong filled the forest. It was alive with life.

Smokeysky had been in Pineclan for a quarter moon. Most cats were nice, but some kept their distance. Just like Greystar had said.

"I'm going to go near the border." Smokeysky announced.

"Okay." The leader of the patrol, Gentlebreeze acknowledged

"I'll come with you." Cloudflash said, casting a glance at Smokeysky. She padded off, flicking her tail so Cloudflash knew to follow her.

The scent of mouse filled her nostrils. She ducked down into a hunter's crouch. Smokeysky crept closer, pinpointing the mouse. Suddenly up ahead, something some startled the mouse and it scurried off. Smokeysky leaped, but didn't catch it.

"Mouse-dung!" She cursed quietly to herself.

"Bad luck." Cloudflash gave her a sympathetic look.

"Something near the border caused it. I'm going to go take a look." The she-cat said, determination and annoyance filled her eyes. You could almost see the fire.

Cloudflash stepped closer to her, "I'm coming with you."

Smokeysky rolled her blue eyes, "Since when are you so protective?" She purred.

Hurt crossed his eyes and he said nothing, instead he headed towards the border.

"Wait, I didn't mean to offend you. I just wasn't used to it. No one really cared for me like you do." Smokeysky cried out to him.

He turned around sharply, his eyes softening at her sorrowful expression, "I'm sorry too, I shouldn't have overreacted."

Before Smokeysky could reply they both heard voices. They slowly crept to their own trees. Cloudflash was one the right while Smokeysky was on the left.

She peered to the left of the tree and what she saw completely shocked her. Snowleaf was speaking with rogues.

"Listen, she's still out there. I know she is. I need her dead or else it'll ruin my plans to destroy Waterclan. She already wouldn't kill herself and Foxpaw failed in pushing into the river. When Foxpaw died I heard him tell her my plans. If you don't kill her then you don't get the territory. Understood?" Snowleaf snarled.

The two rogues nodded vigorously. One had a nasty scar on her left eye. The other had an entire ear torn!

"You tell no one. I'm still recruiting cats from the other clan's. If anyone finds out, my plans will be ruined and you two will be crow-food." Snowleaf narrowed her eyes at them.

The muddy brown she-cat with the scar started speaking, "Where will we most likely find her?"

"She probably joined another clan."

"And what's her name?"

"Smokeysky."

Cloudflash snapped his head towards her, "What, are they talking about?" He whispered.

"I'll tell you later." She whispered back. He wasn't satisfied with her answer, but he didn't say anything else. When Smokeysky looked back, the rogues were gone and Snowleaf was going back into the heart of Waterclan's territory.

"Lets go back to camp. I'll tell you everything there." Cloudflash opened his mouth to protest, but closed it quickly, realizing Smokeysky was right.

They went back to camp at a brisk pace. They didn't say anything to each other. Smokeysky looked at the tom wearily, his eyes gave away nothing.

She turned back to the direction of camp. It was just uphead. Smokeysky followed him as he veered away from camp. They were close to camp, but not close enough so someone could here them.

"Alright, what's going on." Cloudflash said seriously. His layed back attitude was gone. He seemed to guienly care about her as his friend.

She sighed softly, "Snowleaf wants me dead because I know about her plans. But, she also wants me dead because of the prophecy my brother Foxpaw gave me before I-I." Smokeysky couldn't finish the sentence. Tears were spilling out of her eyes.

"What happened?" Cloudflash asked gently as he padded over carefully. He brushed his tail gently across her back.

"Please don't think I'm a fox-heart." She whimpered.

"I'd never think that about you."

She sniffed nervously, "Foxpaw had been very mean to me. Including trying to kill me, calling me a kit, and betraying me. I was doing my warrior assessment when I snapped. We were at the top of the Star Oak, I turned around and-".

Cloudflash didn't need her to finish to know what happened, "Oh Smokeysky. It's not your fault; it never was."

"Thanks, but I'm not done. When he came crashing down I realized what I did and raced down the tree. He told me Snowleaf's plans and also the truth. An earlier prophecy had been misunderstood, but now there was a new one. Smoke will fill the sky and 4 must become 5 to destroy the snow on a simple leaf."

"I think we know most of the prophecy. The smoke is obviously about you and the snow and leaf is about Snowleaf, but I'm not sure how Smoke will fill the sky and 4 becoming 5."

"There's one more thing."

"What's that?"

"I must stop Snowleaf before she destroys Waterclan. I can't stay here, Cloudflash. I need to prepare for her army of cats!" Smokeysky explained.

Cloudflash dipped his head, his eyes becoming dull before he made his desicion, "Then I will go with you, Smokeysky. Whever you go I will always be there with you."

Oh my gosh. Isn't that the cutest thing!😍😍😍😍😍😍. Remember, just because I ship it doesn't mean it's gonna happen. Anyway, not too eventful. So how do you think Smokeysky will stop Snowleaf? And what's Snowleaf's whole story. We already learned some, but not the whole thing.
