Xander stands on uneasy legs as he remains frozen in front of her room. His heartbeat hardly calms as he thinks over what he is expected to do later. He feels the numbness creeping throughout his body as he stays there.
His breathing comes out strained as he finds a focus on her heartbeat in an attempt to calm himself. It is not without difficulty as he raises his hand against the wooden door blocking him. The echo of his knock fills the hall as he hears the sounds behind the door stop all at once.
His voice is almost ghostly and haunting as he finally breaks the silence, "P-please.."
His eyes close as the sudden rising of her heartbeat reaches his ears. He stands unmoving as his head slumps forwards against the barrier blocking him from his mate. Another uneasy breath leaves his lips as his tone shifts with worry.
"Answer me."
The echoing and unsettling whimper that comes from behind the door has his whole being buckling upon itself. His eyes widen as he stares at the door, his heart twisting as he stands helpless while she's just beyond the door.
"Mate?"
His hand remains upon the door as the whimper of his wolf causes Xander's breath to seize in his throat.
His voice cracks as he's trying to keep himself calm, "S-sky..."
His eyes close as he hears the shuffle of feet behind him. His breath catching once again as he realizes the bastard sent them to make sure he was leaving. His knuckles rasp against the surface of the door as he contemplates his choices, the ache in his chest growing.
His tone shifts as he whispers, "I'm sorry."
Unease runs up his spine as a hand clamps against his shoulder, the overwhelming desire to shake it off fills his mind but he remains steady.
"That's enough, Itzcoatl.*"
Xander's eyes dart back to her door in hopes that she would finally open it but the silence remains. His fingers curling inwards as the guard tugs against him. His chest constricting as he finally gives up and allows the unruly hands to tug him away from her room.
The ache in his heart grows as he is pulled, tugged, and moved around like a puppet through the halls of the estate towards the closet exit.
Lukas remains stagnant and posed at the furthest wall beside the door to the hallway. He cannot help but watch Genevieve as she moves about the room uneasily.
She constantly has a worry filled look whenever she is in Caleb's room. He watches her slowly approaching as she nears the young Alpha once more. It's been three excruciating days without so much as an answer and Lukas is both unnerved and aware that something is very wrong.
Evie watches Caleb with a bit more skepticism as she's trying to confirm if he possesses the same mark as Rylee. She's both trying to be inconspicuous and thorough as she's still not sure of it's reason herself.
Even Lukas shouldn't be aware until she's absolutely certain that Caleb's state has something to do with Rylee.
Her gaze darting against every inch of the young alpha's skin as her search is partially impeded.
She huffs under her breath as her gaze remains on Caleb, fingers trembling at her side at the anxiousness brewing through her mind.
She starts with a slight stutter but quickly recovers, "L-Lukas?"
Her fingers being stilled against her lab coat as they dig into the cloth fabric harshly. She quickly feels Lukas' gaze settle onto her.
"Huh?"
