The next morning, I was awoken by a loud clucking noise.
     "What's that?" I asked alarmed.
"Oh, Lauren hasn't met Lou's alarm clock yet," Zuri laughed.
"Hey!" Lou growled. "Everyone get up its time for breakfast!" Emma groaned.
"Isn't summer supposed to mean getting up late?" Emma complained.
"You've been doing this for three years!" Zuri pointed out.
"And I'm STILL not used to it....Or that tingly feeling you get when you go in the lake."
"You go IN the lake?" Tiffany gasped. I laughed as I started brushing my light brown hair. Lou, Zuri, and Tiffany got up, but Emma wouldn't budge.
"Come on Em, you're going to miss breakfast!" Lou said shaking Emma awake as she groaned.
"Fine," she rolled out of bed. We all got ready and honestly, most of it was Emma yelling at Zuri to get out of the bathroom. It kind of reminded me of being back at home with my brothers and sisters. When we were all ready, we started walking towards the mess hall.
"You can sit wherever you want," Lou told me. "We don't have any assigned seats or anything." I nodded. That got me thinking about where I was going to sit. I was friends with Zuri but I wasn't sure if she'd want to sit with me. After I got my food, I looked around. Each table held a different clique and it seemed I wouldn't fit in anywhere. I started walking towards a half empty table when Zuri called me over.
"Why don't you sit with us?" She asked gesturing towards Tiffany and Griff.
"Oh, thanks!" I exclaimed as I set my tray down next to Griff and across from Zuri.
"So how was your first morning?" Griff asked.
"It was good! All the rushing reminded me of being back home with all my brothers and sisters."
"Oh you have a big family?" He assumed.
"Sort of. I live with a foster family and I have four sisters and three brothers."
"Oh cool." Griff started explaining how he lived with a foster family until he went to juvie. "So um... what happened to your family?" He asked awkwardly. By then, Tiffany and Zuri were listening too.
"Oh..well..." I mumbled. It was always kind of hard for me to talk about my real parents.
"You don't need to tell us if you don't want to," Zuri assured me.
"No it's ok," I said. After a deep breath, I spoke again. "My parents abandoned me. They already had another girl and they couldn't afford me so... yeah."
"Oh that's kind of what happened to me," Griff recalled. For some reason, even though Griff had the same thing happen to him, I felt alone. It was always hard for me in school. My past caused nobody to want to be friends with me. Now, nobody knew what happened and I could restart. Please don't ask what happened in my past. I don't want to talk about it. The point is, it's better now.
The topic quickly changed to activities. "Do you guys want to go canoeing after breakfast?" Zuri asked. We all agreed and quickly finished so we could head out to the lake. After what Emma said about it, I was a little nervous. Tingly feeling? What was it, radioactive oil?
After breakfast we ran over to the lake and grabbed a canoe. Zuri and Tiffany hooked it to the dock so we could pull on a rope to come back. Then they got in and Griff and I followed. We started talking about what we would do his summer. It turns out there are a lot of really fun activities at camp! There are tournaments, dances, and even cabin v. Cabin competitions! I was so excited for what this summer would bring. Let's just say, I wasn't expecting some of the things that happened. You'll find out about those things later though. We were nearly in the middle of the lake when we decided to come back. I grabbed the rope and started pulling as Zuri, Griff, and Tiffany continued talking. As I pulled, the canoe wasn't moving. I didn't know what was going on so I kept pulling. Suddenly, I saw it. The end of the rope, in my hand. My mouth dropped. Griff was the only one to see. Zuri and Tiffany were too busy laughing.
"Uh oh..." he said. That's when Tiffany noticed.
" oh my god...what do we do what do we do!!????" She yelled.
"What are you guys....oh," Zuri gasped. That was when my first adventure began....
