shoegazer

shoegazer

empty.
momentary silence before
we are gone.
you stand before me.
hesitating.
and why?
your eyes have no love
and your skin is so cold
to the touch.
your breath is mist between us.
I, stone-faced with bitter hurt,
watch your gaze flicker
from my face
to your shoes.
I tear out my heart for your display,
used and torn from your tampering.
you exhale icily and
my heart freezes.
you take one step away,
still hesitating.
a gunshot is heard
and a bullet is lodged in your chest.
there is no more breath
or hesitation.
your glass eyes are quiet with longing.
or hunger.
in your last moments,
you peer up at me
and I take back my heart.
as I walk away,
I feel myself steel.
the frost from your love
remains in my head,
and though you have faded,
I miss you to death.
