recoil
I romanticize things that I should not romanticize.
like roses with thorns
and raindrops on glass.
I adore things that I should not adore.
like the static of a telly screen
and you.
you have only ever let me face
the consequences of your mistakes
but I must confess,
your eyes get me lost
and your smile is sweet like honey,
and I have never loved you so.
I get hurt by things that should not hurt.
like flickering campfires
and scratching metal.
I miss things that I should not miss.
like the nighttime stars
and you.
respectively,
I know nothing of intimacy
yet wanted so dearly to have you forever.
the worst part is,
you were there for me,
and I still craved all the more.
you weren't enough,
you never were,
for I needed someone to last.
I do not understand
why you were my world,
looking back on it today
but I must confess,
your eyes get me lost
and your smile is sweet like honey,
and I have never loved you so.
