CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN:

| lynette’s pov |

“I never knew you could cook, though,” I finally told him as we stayed on the bench in the park. We had just finished eating dinner at the restaurant we went to, and the food there was the best thing ever.

Calum gave me the most puzzled expression ever. “I don’t cook?”

I spotted my mistake and laughed a bit. “I meant bake, sorry.” For a second there, I thought I was going insane already. It’s like our encounters from before weren’t true.

He cleared his throat, scratching the back of his neck. “I don’t bake, either, Lynette.”

He has to be kidding me. He made a cake with me earlier this day, that’s something you can’t forget. I mean, not because we did it together, but it’s because it was very recent.

“That’s funny,” I commented, faking a laugh.

I was scared out of my mind; I couldn’t have been dreaming that time, right? He’s just joking; he has to be joking.

“I’m not kidding, Lynette,” he answered, in a serious tone. He was going to hold my hand, but I stood up and shook my head.

This can’t be happening; he can’t be saying that.

“But you went in my house twice? Through the window? Don’t you remember?” I asked, in disbelief. There were so many questions waiting to be answered in the back of my mind, and I was panicking already.

Calum told me himself that he went through the window. He’s always gone through the windows.

But then, why were my windows barricaded? He couldn’t have gone through those by himself; he wouldn’t be able to squeeze through the metal.

“Lynette, calm down. Let’s talk first.” Calum tried to get me to sit, but I flinched once I felt his hold on my arm.

“No, Calum. Please, just answer me,” I pleaded, stepping away from him. If I don’t get the answer now, if he doesn’t tell me what he said wasn’t true, I don’t think I can do this anymore.

I’m so confused.

“Okay, okay,” he said, backing away from me and his hands slightly up in defense. “I haven’t been inside your house, ever since you brought me there.”
