"What house did you get into Laurie?" he called. I turned around and walked down the steep steps, feeling light headed. He didn't notice that I looked short of breath as I approached him.
"The yellow one." I concluded, remembering the amazing glow of the statue. The golden hue that seemed to still be stuck in my head.
"Fortis!" he cried, then looking down at his list. "Cecilia Leberbone."
A little girl with silvery grey hair began her ascent up the steep steps. I caught a faint look of her pale face as she slipped into the wide door of the corridor. She wasn't scared, in fact she looked excited, unlike the rest of her peers. I saw Maia scowl at me as Jack put his hand on my shoulder and caught my hand, looking down at the back of it.
There was a large circle imprinted on it that I hadn't seen before. It had a picture of a girl, then a wolf, then the same girl, and then a solidly built man. Jack grinned.
"You're a shape shifter, you can tell by the seal. You get these when you don't know what your power is. They help you control it," I looked at Jack, confused. I thought I controlled the elements...
"Madame Gloriana told me I control the elements..." I said. Jack looked surprised, then nodded.
"That crystal is an Elder Crystal. It's really rare, and only really powerful people can control it's talents," he explained, "only people who are destined for it's powers can handle it's sheer energy. Many actually die... But you... you haven't."
He looked down at me, catching my eye, his hand still holding mine. I hadn't noticed just how beautiful and blue his eyes were. They were like the fresh water pond that was in my garden at home. It also had darker blue patterns, like the fish that swam in the pond, and a faint outlining of green on the very edges of his iris.
Again, I got that weird sensation of knowing him, from before. But not knowing from where. It wasn't as strong as it had been with Kane, but it was present.
"Harold Stane," called Jack, letting go of my hand. I exhaled, remembering the note that Rain had given me. I reached into my shirt pocket, and unfolded the perfectly proportioned note.
If your interested, then come to the flying tower tonight at 8, right after dinner finishes.
Ben.
As soon as I read the note, it suddenly began to move in my hands. It started folding itself in complex and different patterns, until finally it became a dove, flying out of my hands and up to the ceiling, before disappearing into the rafters. Jack had obviously seen what the note had said, and like his brother, he scowled.
"You shouldn't trust Ben," sighed Jack, "you really shouldn't. He's really bad, and he doesn't deserve your attention." Jack said seriously, before calling out, "Marlow Meredith!"
"I think I'll decide who deserves my attention or not," I found myself snapping, before walking over to the other exchanges. I walked up to Sasha Lily, since Maia kept giving me glares and Harry Jenkins didn't seem to be too fond of me. Sasha smiled, extending her hand and taking mine, then turning around to see the circle. She nodded in approval, before letting go of my hand.
"You're a shape shifter!" cried Sasha, her voice excited, yet dreamy. I nodded, grinning at her, "Show me your stuff!"
"How?" I asked, kind of stunned by her demand. I had forgotten that I could actually use powers, it seemed such a silly thing to think about.
"Well," she began dreamily, "you think real hard of what you wanna transform into... And then you thinking about like... everything about it! And then it just.... happens! It gets easier as you practise, trust me! I can do it really quickly now,"
