"Aaaah!" I screamed as I fell through the pinching cold night's air. The sound of wind in my ears was deafening as I hurtled to my almost definite death. There was no escape route on this fall, just a nice slam into the ground.
The sound of beating wings behind me would have usually seemed insignificant, but as I kept falling to my imminent death, they seemed to be a lot more powerful then bird's wings. Suddenly, a pair of strong hands clamped firmly on my sides, before I was pulled upwards in a graceful motion towards the sky. I stopped screaming, the wind gone from my ears, only the sound of beating wings and the sensation of flying.
I looked up and saw Ben's amused face, inches from mine. I also noticed the large, angelic wings that had seemingly sprouted out of his back.
"I hate you so much!" I cried, but I was laughing. I guess I was just hysterical that I'd come just meters, inches even from death and now I was being held up above the school by a boy with wings on his back. Ben grinned, motioning with his head down at the large courtyard in the middle of the school. A few students who had evidently either lost their way or were out for an evening stroll pointed up at us and jumped up and down.
"Spread your body out, like a flying fox," said Ben, as we soared over the courtyard. Feeling the wind underneath my limbs and seeing the open night sky spread out around me made my heart beat fast. Ben flew around the flight tower, then down to the grounds. We got so low to the ground that I could skim my hand against the grass. We pulled up, flying over the tops of trees and seemingly dancing over the leaves.
Then, we stopped on a particularly tall pine, and Ben stood me on the very tip of it as he hovered over me, guiding my balance. I grinned up to him, trying to keep my balance as best I could. It was like learning to walk almost, someone holding you up as you took tiny steps (or in my case balanced on the tip of a tree).
"Pretty good date right?" said Ben, twirling me around, and chuckling as when I almost lost complete balance. I rolled my eyes and smiled teasingly.
"Oh... this is a date now?"
"Wasn't it always?" asked Ben, letting go of my hands and letting me balance on my own for a minute. As soon as I was stock still, I almost screamed in joy.
"This is amazing!" I cried, trying not to shake as I balanced all by myself. Ben smirked, folding his arms over his chest and looking at me expectantly. I wondered what he was wanting from me.
"Can we make this a date yet?" he asked. I shook my head cheekily and steadily, trying to keep my posture perfect. Ben grinned mischievously and extending an arm forward as if he was about to push me. I was in a dilemma. If I let him push me, I'd fall. If I reached out and stopped him, then I would loose my balance and fall.
As his hand gave me a slight push, I realized this was the second time he had tried to kill me tonight. How romantic.
As I feel through the thin branches of the surrounding pines, I heard that familiar flapping sounds. I squeezed my eyes shut, to avoid the vicious branches, and waited for his hands to grab onto me. This time, they scooped me up and brought me to the clear nights air in a matter of seconds.
