My first class was Latin. I sat next to Jack, who seemed pretty good at it, but really I wanted to ask about Kane.
"Is he okay?" I asked.
"He's fine," mumbled Jack, massaging his temples and writing down a few words.
"What happend up there last night?"
"Nothing, mind your own business,"
"But I was UP there Jack! It IS my business!"
"Is there anything you too would like to share with the class?" called Professor Thornton to us and I felt my checks glow red. I shook my head and Jack did the same, "Good. Now class, the word..."
As the Professor's voice sunk into the background of my mind, I turned back to Jack.
"Come on Jack, you need to explain,"
Jack turned to me, gritting his teeth. Out of his finger tips, a water drop rolled and landed on his desk. I watched as it fell with a small *plop* to the hard wooden desk. Jack turned away taking deep breaths before picking up his pen and writing.
"Laurie, you shouldn't get mixed up in any of this stuff. All you need to know is Kane and I are here to protect you and always have been. Do you understand?" he said under his breathe. I thought about it a little, focussing on it less then my work which probably wasn't a wise decision. What did he mean by 'and always have been'. I had only known him for about a day.
Few classes and a small break in between and it was lunch. Lunch, unlike dinner and breakfast, was out in the grounds. I joined Sasha, Marlow, Rain and Ben on the bright, lush grass. When I sat down, Ben moved towards me and put an arm around me. I beamed up at him and leant into his body more. Jack was sitting with Senoida and a few other kids I had never seen before.
As I dug into my salad sandwich, Marlow finished her food and started doing cartwheels around us.
"Let me join in too!" grinned Rain, standing up and running after Marlow. As I watched his goofy run, I knew this wasn't going to end very well. He followed Marlow for about two more cartwheels before he flew into the sky. He seemed to be going quite well, until his foot caught on Maia's bag. Maia had been sitting in a near by group, keeping her eyes set on Jack. She stood up furiously, just as Rain began to come crashing down.
In an instant, Sasha had leapt towards him and changed into a beanbag, and Rain landed head first into the squishy mess. Maia stomped over to him, growling. When she saw me though, she completely forgot about Rain. She stomped over and stared down at me.
"I have some unfinished business with you," she said, reaching down and grabbing the collar of my school shirt, she pulled me up off the ground. I thanked God that Ben quickly came to my rescue.
