Chapter 1

Adelia’s P.O.V.

“What are you wearing?” My mom asks the second I step through the front door. I sigh and set my bag on the kitchen counter.

“A shirt.” I tell her.

“I swear you were wearing something different this morning… And isn’t that a little too big for you?”

“Food got spilled all over me at lunch.” I tell her. “No big deal.”

“On purpose?” She asks, her voice laced with concern.

“No, mom, it was an accident.”

“Oh.” She says, looking back down at her cooking. “So, a boy spilled food on you?”

“Yep. How’d you figure it out?”

“Your brother has the same shirt.” She tells me with a small smile. “Was he cute?”

“That’s beside the point, mom. I’m giving him his shirt back tomorrow and it’ll all be done with.”

“So, he was cute.”

I roll my eyes. “Do you need help with dinner?”

“No, sweetie, I’m fine.”

“I’m gonna go start on my homework, then.”

The front door opens and my mom smiles. “Your brother’s home.”

“Hey Ashy-poo!” I call out.

He rolls his eyes. “Hey, mum.”

“Hi sweetie.” She says smiling.

“When’s dinner gonna be ready?” He asks, walking into the kitchen. I’m surprised Calum’s not here with him today.

“In twenty minutes. Why?” She asks.

“I hope you have enough. Calum’s coming over.”

“Have you asked him out yet?” I ask, giggling.

He swats me on the head playfully. “Ha ha. It’s funny because you’ve never had a boyfriend.”

“You wanna go there?” I ask him.

“What if I do?”

“Then you better run, Irwin, because I’m coming for you.”

“Try me, Lawrence.”

My mom sighs. “We’re all Irwins here.” She says.

“Not Adeli-poo.” Ashton says, smirking. “She’s adopted.”

“Every day, the same thing.” My mom sighs. “Ashton, just because she’s adopted doesn’t mean we love her any less.”

“It’s true.” I say. “Especially since I’m her favorite.”

“Not true.” Ashton says.

“Really? Because I think if she was satisfied with you, she wouldn’t have adopted me.”

“Fuck off.” He says, rolling his eyes.

“Ashton Fletcher Irwin! Language!” My mom says sternly.

I laugh. “Yeah, Fletcher.”

“You bitc-” My mom glares at him. “I hate you.” He says. “I’m going upstairs. Let me know when Cal gets here.” He’s halfway out the kitchen before he turns around. “Why are you wearing a guy’s shirt?” He asks, his voice on edge. Here it comes.
