The roar of engines is heard in the distance of Las Vegas, or as my father calls it Hell's Home. My name is Fire, pretty unique I know, my father decided to name me after something that is beautiful and would hurt anyone badly if touched. My father is known by many names, el diablo, Satan, Hades, The Devil, his personal favorite is The Devil, it makes him sound like a bad guy.
I've always been curious with the mortal realm or the surface, and what a better way to feed my curiosity than to live under Sin City. Las Vegas is where my father does a lot of his dealing. There's nothing better than leaving Las Vegas without a soul and no money in your pocket and you leave happy about it. Well the happy part is my father's fault, he gives his "partners" some kind of happy juice that makes them forget the deal they made with him and they leave happily. So everyone leaves content with a foggy brain and a killer hangover, there's a reason why Las Vegas is called Sin City, and that's because the father of sin lives there, well beneath it.
"I hate it here Chaos, it's so hot and I can hear the souls screaming ALL the time," as the words leave my mouth I hear the blood curdling scream of one of my father's newest souls. "Don't you wish we could leave and go to the Surface?"
Chaos my guardian/ partner in crime gives me the crazy eye, she hates it when I talk about leaving and the temperature. Like me Chaos is a hybrid, but she has some "rare" qualities with her being half troll and the other half human. She is covered in blue fur, not fully but half of her body is, she has fur on her shoulders, back, stomach and female area, a real pain in the tail to get waxed. She can't rock a bikini like I can because of her fur but I'm not much better. Being the Devil's daughter I have my fair share of strange qualities, instead of glorious red hair on my head I have ragging fire, which is also on my arms, anywhere I have body hair I have fire, which isn't all that bad because the guys around here are kind of touchy, no action for years on end, but when I don't want to be touched which I usually don't it's up in flames they go. The only almost normal guy here is Night.
Night is the first in command and my dad's star henchmen. Night's job is to go and find the person who owes my dad money or the usual souls, because once the person leaves Hell we can't get them back, then we have to trust the hell hounds to track them down and bring them back. Night's main purpose is to make sure we get those people before they leave because the hell hounds tend to leave bloody messes behind them.
I went to the surface once with Night to track down this girl who owed my dad ten souls. She was on the state line when we found her, the white line to us looks like a straight state line around the whole city but to mortals it looks like a sign. Night took one step over the line and was severely shocked back over the line. The girl laughed so hard at Night getting zapped that I lit up, my fire ragging. I flicked a small spark at her and she went up in flames as if she had been doused in gasoline. Night was so confused, he had never seen me alight, he had always seen me with a buzzed head, whenever I don't let my flame loose I get some hair growth, but when I go flamey, boom bald.
"Wow," he looks at me speechless. "I always thought you had red hair like the boss and you just shaved you're head out of rebellion, but this," he looks at my glowing flames and smiles. "This is so cool."
That was the first and last time I went to the surface, my dad found out not soon after I returned home with Night laughing with me, but when he saw us he went bat shit crazy, he was so angry at me that I went hot head. He started to rave about what if I had been spotted by a mortal.
"They would of thought I was some stupid mortal girl on fire, mortals aren't that smart father." I was so angry at him I went to my room ablaze, and when I saw Night I screamed at him LOUD and I swear I saw fire come out, and I'm pretty sure he saw it too because the morning after he was missing half of his right eyebrow.
"At least you aren't covered in blue fur when it's forever summer Texas weather on speed in here. And besides you can always go back to the surface with Night 'on duty'," Chaos looks at me and winks. I shake my head at her she smiles mischievously and cackles.
"Oh please you think that I like Night, he just works for my dad," I sigh.
"He is always looking and smiling at you, and he is cute," Chaos giggles like a girl.
Chaos has a huge crush on Night, she thinks he's the super model of Hell. To me he isn't gorgeous but he isn't ugly, he has really black shoulder length hair, and I know it sounds cliché but his eyes are the inky blue black color of the Surface sky at night. His skin is the color of rich caramel but a shade or two darker, the heat of Hell does that to the skin. His cheekbones are high and razor sharp, his jawline more defined than a word in the dictionary, and his lips, God his lips, a rosy pink full and.
"Whatever," I shake myself out of my Night haze. "I burned off half of his eyebrow and besides I don't think guys like girls with fire for hair and when I'm not on fire a bald chick." I cross my arms and stick my tongue out at Chaos, she rolls her eyes and flips her curly blue hair.
"Oh quit fishing, you're beautiful, and sexy as Hell. You're one bad ass bit-" my bedroom door swings open full force and in walks my father, who I'm still not speaking to.
"Chaos hello, Fire I need to speak to you." He motions to the door at Chaos. She stands and brushes off her jeans and stretches out her stiff legs but before she can do anything else I speak.
"Whatever you have to say to me you can say in front of my best and only friend," my father looks shocked it's been more than two months since I've spoken to him, which has made dinner awkward and unbearable. His shock must be an act because as soon as I see the flash of it on his face it's gone.
"Alright. I'm going to the Surface for a month including this Saturday and I will be taking the car." The car is what my father and I decided to call the chariot of damnation drawn by five Hell stallions. My father must have forgotten what this Saturday is.
"This Saturday is the finals chariot racing and I was going to use the car to win," I can see the frustration in my father's eyes before it appears on his face, and I know what happens next.
"There will be other races you will win but this weekend and the month following I need the chariot so suck it up and I'll see you next month." I can see Night standing behind my father with his head bent down as if he feels sorry for me, but I'm tired of people being sorry for me.
"Fine, I don't care," I can feel the fire churning in my stomach and my finger tips are getting hot, I can hear the sizzle of hair burning and the crisp odor of burning hair. "Close the door Night," I say it though grit teeth because if I said it with my mouth opened I would have burnt off the rest of his eyebrow. Chaos looks at me with either admiration or just pitty, in that moment I'm tired of her too. "Chaos will you leave me for the rest of the night," she reaches for my shoulder but I pull away. She walks lightly on my cement floor she opens the door and shuts it quick, and I hear the dead bolt click, locking me in.
I yell and let a few tears fall, unleashing the fire that I held in for two months at my father, and then the tears flow for a fatherless girl that I am. I see the fire flying from my mouth as I scream and my gasoline tears do nothing to help me as they fall down my face and fuel the fire more, stronger and hotter.
"I hate you."
