"How is he doing Chaos?" She enters slowly and quietly like a stealthy animal stalking its prey. She dances into the room with light framing her face, she is an image of pure beauty and evil.
"He's fine, excuse me." She reaches for my shoulder but I scrape by and exit the room. Night leans against the wall across from the room speaking with Death, they both are lost in thought at something. I don't stick around to find out what it is.
"Where's Chaos?" I leave Daye's room with wet eyes, I want to run into Night's waiting arms but I have to distance myself from him for his protection. He shrugs and continues his conversation with Oliver, Rose sits next to them awkwardly, "would you like to go to the cafeteria with me? I haven't eaten yet." She nods and we make out way towards the cafeteria.
"Fire I'm sorry about the way I reacted about Sally."
"You don't have to apologize I understand."
"That's the thing, you don't understand. She is my only daughter, I don't know what I would do if anything happened to her." I nod my head because she is right I don't know how it feels to lose your own flesh and blood. "You don't know yet anyway. One day you'll have your own family and you will protect them at any cost."
"You're wrong, I already have a family that I am willing to protect at any cost." We continue to the cafe in silence, maybe I shouldn't have invited her to lunch with me. When we enter the cafe I see there aren't very many options only chicken or pizza, Rose and I cringe at the sight of the pizza and we grab the chicken. We sit in silence as we tear into the chicken, Night comes later and relieves the tension between us.
"Have you seen Chaos anywhere, Daye is asking for her?" I shake my head and he leaves me there with Rose.
"I haven't seen her since she left Daye's room earlier."
"That's strange, she was torn up when she heard the news about Daye. She wanted to be here as soon as possible." That is strange Rose seems to know more about Chaos than I would like her too, Chaos is my best friend, or she was before we went at each other's throats.
"I'm going to look for her, excuse me." I leave my lunch and Rose at the table and go in search for Chaos. "Excuse me have you seen a girl with frizzy blue hair?" I ask the nearest nurse but she just shoves me off. "I thought this was a place where you get help," I mutter under my breath. I don't even need help because I see a mess of blue curls looking at me from outside the hospital. She sits on a wooden bench smoking, odd. She has never smoked a cigarette in her life, she says it gives wrinkles and rots the teeth, at least that's what she told me. She would never.
"Chaos?" She turns and looks at me with wet red eyes, they don't really see me. I wave at her and she blinks the tears away, she flicks the cigarette at me. It scrapes by my leg and scorches me. I groan and look at her like she were dumb. "What the hell was that?"
"That shouldn't have hurt, Savior." She smiles with a wolfish grin and lights another one. "Catch." She throws the lighter at me still a light. I let it drop with a clack. "Not much of a hero are you?" She knows how to push my buttons and I hate her for it. I turn to walk away but she grabs my hand and pulls me toward her, she gets in my face and breathes smoke. "How good of a hero are you if you can't save one measly person when they need you? How will you defeat her if you can't stop a wendigo, all glorious Fire. Daughter of the Devil?" I rip my hand away from her and storm off.
"Daye wants to see you." I take my leave and go to Daye's room before she can come and stop me. Night leans against the wall across from Daye's room, when he sees me he runs up and bombards me with questions about Chaos, it takes everything I have to not fall apart at her name. She was so cold and mean, she didn't seem herself, but she dealt those questions where she knew where they would hurt me the most. "She wants to be alone."
