Chapter 18

Veronica Lodge's POV

Archie and I walk on stage, hand in hand. The crowd is already cheering. Archie's hand was getting very sweaty. I squeezed it for some more support. He looked at me and smiled. We each walked to a microphone.

"Hey Riverdale High! I'm Veronica Lodge and this is Archie Andrews. Today we will be singing "Kids in America" by Kim Wilde. Enjoy!" I chirped into the microphone.

The music started to play, and I looked at Archie. He was looking at me, I nodded in approval. Archie started singing the first verse, and I was so proud. We started jumping and dancing. I looked into the crowd as I started my verse. I saw Cheryl looking very upset, I would talk to her later. But what bothered me was seeing Betty, frowning and sending me dirty looks. While Jughead was behind her clapping along. I watched as Betty's smile turned to a smirk, as she raised her hand in the air. The lights flickered and we're turned off.

Everyone was freaking out. I could hear people running, trying to find an exit. Just then the room went silent and two gunshots were set off. Everyone was screaming and crying. The lights flickered once again, and eventually turned back on. Betty was still standing in the middle of the dance floor. She was staring at me with her hand still in he air. Jughead was no where to be found. I looked over to Archie, to see him shot, on the floor.

"Archie! Archie get up! Archie talk to me! Please!" I screamed in terror.

Everyone cleared a path, and Betty walked over to us. The smirk on her face grew bigger. Through the path you could see Juggie, also being shot, lying on the ground.

"Juggie! What did you do to them? Why are you laughing! Betty that's your boyfriend and best friend. What's the matter with you!" I cried.

"Boo hoo." She laughed.

Police officers flooded the scene and took Archie and Jughead away. I've already lost one important man in my life, I can't lose two more. Crying, I ran after Archie and Jughead. I turned around at the doorway, I saw people backing away from Betty. Everyone feared her, everyone knew she was behind this, but why? But Betty still laughed, not one tear was shed. That's her boyfriend, for gods sake!

"Archie! Jughead! Please be ok..." I cried.

People surrounded me, and cried. They spoke only good and encouraging words. At last Cheryl came up to me.

"I'm sorry Veronica. I know you love them very much. I'll drive you to the hospital, if you want. I don't want you to get hurt trying to get there." Cheryl says, very genuinely.

"I would love that Cheryl. Thank you." I responded.

We rush to her car, I'm so anxious to get to them. Archie's my boyfriend, and Juggie is like my brother. It hurts so much to see them in so much pain, seeing them dying. It jut reminds me more and more of daddy, and I cry harder.

"Cheryl? Why are you doing this for me? After everything we've been through." I asked.

"Because you were always the person to comfort me when I was upset. Not even my friends asked what was wrong. You show me true respect, and I appreciate you Veronica. Yes, I do like Archie, a lot. But you're his girlfriend, he loves you. And I know you lost your dad recently, and I can't imagine what it must feel like. But I'm not going to let you lose to more men so important to you." Cheryl answered.

I looked at her and smile. Cheryl and I may be starting a friendship. I was so grateful for Cheryl doing all of this for me, so I could stay safe. She really cared. But all I could think about was whether or not Archie or Juggie made it...
