It was at this moment when Helen piped up. "I know I'm not savvy with all of this ghost talk, but I have heard the rumours that your Phantom is half human, half ghost?" Oh, not you too Helen. James nodded his head with an affirmative grunt.
Jack split from the circle and drew out a white board covered in equations and symbols and other various markings. He slipped a cane from his shirt and pointed it at the top set of words. "See here, Helen. Here we have all of the possible scenarios that would turn someone into, what we like to call, a halfa. But each scenario involves the unfortunate individual being zapped with lethal amounts of ecto radiation, or with over a gigawatt of electricity, both of which would instantly kill a human. So while we have grown to understand the rumour that Phantom is a halfa, as of yet, the impossibilities out-weigh the possibilities."
"Wait," the scientist said. "So you haven't had a chance to examine Danny Phantom yet?"
Maddie and Jack gave each other worried looks. Could this ruin their chances with a world-renowned scientist? Maddie stepped forward with a strong foot. "No, not yet, sir. However, we have captured her multiple times and strapped her down to," she pressed a button and the cold steel examination board, which Danny knew all too well, flipped out from under the flooring. "This, our Fenton ecto-autospy table." James raised an eyebrow, his smile beginning to diminish.
Seeing this, Jack leaped over to the board and threw and angry fist at the ceiling. "We have captured her multiple times, and all of those multiple times, she has been rescued by what appeared to be humans. The very last time we caught her was over 4 months ago now, but she was rescued by what this town knows as the Red Hunter." He tilted his head to the floor and sighed.
Maddie typed something into the computer and the display screens popped up with an outline of Phantom with small pieces of writing pointing to various parts of her body. Maddie straightened up and turned to the scientist again. "While she gets away every time, our machine has been able to scan her each time. And with each time, we get more and more information about her chemistry, powers and, so it seems, her mental health." She chuckled at that a bit.
James's face beamed as he stepped forward. "You mean to say, that you've done a CT scan of her brain?" The Fenton hunters nodded proudly. "Well well! Show me her brain; I've always been intrigued to see if such a wonderful specimen as she had a wonderful mind." Maddie clicked on the head region of the scans and various other images of Danny's brain popped up over the room.
"As you can see here, James, on this screen we have the image of a normal brain, my brain, to be precise. The cortisol is all concentrated in the hypothalamus, displaying how a healthy and stable brain should be. And this," she said, walking over to another screen. "This is the scan of Danny Phantom's head, which we were able to update on as we chased her around the city only two weeks ago. The cortisol is scattered haphazardly throughout it, which can be signs of depression, severe stress, or post traumatic stress disorder. Danny Phantom appears to running off pure adrenaline all the time, so if we work together, James, I'm sure we'll be able to capture her for good!"
"Absolutely!" Vlad piped up. "Also, consider this, my fellow scientists. If she has such an unstable mind as this, mixed in with her lethal powers, then she is extremely dangerous. I would suggest making more of an effort to track her down and capture her. Before she hurts anyone, that is. Although, I do believe there have been reports of citizens getting caught in her rampaging cross fire recently." He tilted his head toward Danny sniggered to himself.
Danny broke away from the conversation an fell back a step. Her eyes were wide and her breathing sped up. Her eyes darted around at the screens of the brain, her brain, and suddenly, like a vicious landslide after torrential rain, all of her traumatic memories came back. Danny's parents wanted to capture her, she had always known that. But they already have so much information on her! Far more than she originally thought. Danny's pride for her parents disappeared and the gaping hole flooded with butterflies and knotted thoughts. She thought she had gotten better, she really did! Tears stung her eyes and she turned to run up the stairs, but her brother caught her. He pulled her into a bear hug and gently stroked her hair. He knew that this action calmed her down. Her frame was usually strong, but she felt like a crystal glass being blasted by an opera singer's voice. He wasn't going to let his little sister have a panic attack, not on their parents' most important day, and not while he could help it!
